I’m Sam, here at After the Send, I have been the team photographer for 3 years. I have experience taking photos in many different areas. I began taking photos originally at music festivals and gigs; later gaining experience at weddings and my favourite, outdoor and adventure sports. I am now available for freelance photography as well- personal profiles, advertising gear and apparel, events and on

locations (at the crag or your local wall). I will work on a daily rate that we decide on together to fit your individual budget. I am Dorset based but happy to travel all over the United Kingdom and abroad. Sam Parsons

Welcome to the world Lowenna Ffion.

Lowe arrived in to the world not quite as planned but in a hospital. She was still born in a tub with some great midwives around. To see Emmie go through it was mind-blowing, she was on another level and had to work hard due to the giant Parsons head!
-
What followed was quite the event, helping Emmie to her hospital bed while everyone was slipping on blood, felt pretty real I'm not going to lie. Also going into a theatre was pretty mad but it turns out I look fantastic in scrubs.
-
Eilidh has jumped into the big sister role perfectly continuously wanting to hold her. Tilly honestly couldn't give a s**t.

This is just the start of being a family of five but it seems pretty sweet now.

Yesterday I took on my longest run yet, a 75k race from the coast to the heart of Dartmoor with over 2000m of elevation.

I only signed up four weeks ago (peer pressure usually does the trick), and up to that point I’d been focused on 5k and 10k improvement plans, just trying to get quicker. I hadn’t run more than 15k in one go all year.

Three weeks out, I realised I needed to load up, so I hit a 70k week, my second biggest ever, finishing with a 30k that felt surprisingly comfortable. From there, my mindset bounced between confidence and concern.

Going into the race, I knew it would be a survival test, so I kept the plan simple, low heart rate and a steady plod. That worked well for the first 20k, although I did get pulled along by a few runners to make navigation easier. After the first aid station, I settled into a controlled pace with another runner, but by 30k I could feel the effort building.

At 38k, things got messy. The trail turned steep and boggy, I slipped, landed hard, and ended up completely covered head to toe. I washed off in a river at the bottom, only to sink both legs deep into bog again 100m later. That’s where I lost my group, and from then on it became a proper solo battle.

The final 36k was all about survival. It was brutal, but I kept moving. By the end, I was still managing to run about 80% of the flats and downhills, slowly, but moving, and that felt like a win.

Eilidh was buzzing to get tied in yesterday. She had been on a rope before but mostly to just rope swing and had no interest in climbing. She was all over it today!

As another year comes to an end, climbing has still been a driving force in my life — even if it hasn’t always been the main focus.

Our visits to crags have been few and far between, but they’ve still taken us to some incredible places, including 10 days of day climbing in the Dordogne.

Next year our time will be stretched even further with an extra member joining the team, but I still hope to let climbing guide our decisions. We’ve already booked an entire month in Fontainebleau, and I can’t wait to see what else we get up to.

Merry Christmas everyone 🎄🧗‍♂️

After a terrible lead up week including missing meals, getting drunk and not drinking enough water was followed by terrible nutrition during the run.
First chew fine. Second chew, managed a couple of bits then started feeling rough. I managed a corner of a Square bar which I spat back up. The rest of the 6 hours was fueled on coke and watermelon.

Other than prep and food, the run went well. Probably the strongest I have felt over that distance. 50k PB, 4th fastest marathon, first 5k - 25min and last 5k - 31min.

Head over to their website, and on their about page, there is a link to a route which starts and ends at their shop. It's a beautiful run or walk, and everyone gets a badge!

In honesty, I had a horrific run as I did it in the afternoon after 2 and a half days of route setting and a 5am start, but that had nothing to do with the route, haha

Well done Sam Parsons for completing the GWC Round in a fast time and being the 9th person to collect the GWC Round Patch.

Impromptu challenge last night.
-
Running up every public road with an elevation change in underhill, Portland. I tried to make them loops if I could, but that often didn't happen as to run up every hill meant I had to run down them to then turn round to run back up. I decided that if at any point I start walking I would have to stop and just go home which made Tillycombe as one of the last hills a poor decision!
-
As a Portlander who often trainings on a cross section of these hills I always wondered how much elevation could be generated from the road hills down there. There are lots of alley ways and footpaths to add to this challenge.
-
This year I have the London Marathon but 4 weeks later I have the which has 3300m over 50k. Last night I ran close to half the distance but only a quarter of the elevation haha I better keep training!
