For Semande My Wife.
Bringing a bit of yourself into what you do is a game changer.
It sets you apart and highlights your uniqueness.
This photoshoot was made for SEMANDE]. I collaborated with other amazing creatives to get the desired results.
The hair was inspired by ancient traditional African hair threading technique popularly know as "Irun Kiko" in Yoruba, worn by women all over Africa and it dates back to the 15th century.
From the garment to the hairdo, accessories and choice of location was all intentional to usher in a new beginning for SEMANDE] at Forty.
I had to channel in a bit of the legendary JD Okahai Ojekeire's series on african hairstyles.

Let it Shine.
I made this portrait of at over the weekend.
I realised how important it is to stay true to yourself.
It was quite interesting to watch her engage and share her story and culture with people at the festival.

The Citizen
“When the root of a tree begins to decay, it spreads death to the branches." (African Proverb)
This photography project is centred around oil exploration in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria and how it has led to the exploitation of the citizens that inhabit the land. This corrupt system has created a fraudulent cycle that has kept the ruling class, and a privileged few, rich and kept the citizens poor.
Oil exploration has caused spillages that have contaminated the rivers and destroyed a whole ecosystem of the mangrove swamps leaving little, or no, sea life in the region. In most cases the ruling class do nothing and the western corporations take no responsibility.

The making of this portrait was a special one for me. I got to learn about the Jewish community in portsmouth and the tour of the synagogue and the story behind it was insightful.
"Supporting local members of the Jewish Community in Portsmouth, as it is now a very small and aging community with most of its members in their 70s or 80s."
