I get it and I guarantee that you will enjoy being photographed by me I have specialised in taking actors’ headshots since 2001 just after I graduated from art school. The first headshots I took were a favour for an actor friend of a friend who needed headshots fast as he didn’t like his student ones. We went to a park, messed around with a couple of rolls of film and went to a pub afterwards wher
e the world of the actors’ headshot photographer revealed itself to me. There then followed an insightful if not sometime frustrating steep learning curve where I learned about the technical do’s and don’ts for taking a headshot. But the single most important lesson I learnt was that the subject must feel 200% comfortable in front of a camera – without this then there would be little chance of taking strong useable headshots. My unique selling point is that I take my time to get to know who you are, the journey you have made to get to the point of being an actor and what goals you have as an actor. Having this shared understanding of you career helps me to get you relaxed and comfortable. My sessions are not rushed (they last, on average between 2.5 to 3 hours) so I am able to direct you for literally every single shot I take of you. An actor is used to being directed so I will assume the role of director, giving you role playing situations and characters to portray for my camera. If I like the ‘look’ of the ‘character’ you are portraying then great, I will take the photo. If I don’t because you are giving me too much or exaggerating then I will ask you to tone down whatever ‘look’ you are giving me. In short, there will certainly be no monastic silence on my part! I will not leave it up to you to decide what to do in front of the camera. I will take full control. Having perfected this technique for 12 years the vast majority of my clients have said that the session is the most relaxed they have ever had (Don’t take my word for it though – do read my testimonials)
