If ever you needed proof that rain on your wedding day doesn't need to stop play, in fact it can make things even MORE fun, this is it! Yesterday it pretty much spitted (spat?!), drizzled or full on rained for much of the day...and fabulous Kirsty and Nick simply embraced their festival wedding and cracked on.

They managed a beautiful outdoor ceremony, danced outside, danced some more, wanged a few wellies, let off smoke flares, and we even squeezed in some cheeky evening photos down in the woodland!

What a memorable and utterly fantastic day. More to follow in the next few days from this gorgeous celebration.

If I was getting married in two weeks…
Here’s what I’d be scribbling onto my last-minute to-do list:

🌸Take flowers out of their water about 30 minutes before you need them.
Gorgeous bouquet. Wet wedding dress. Less gorgeous.

🌸Remove all tags and stickers from outfits.
Dress, bridesmaid dresses, suits, shirts, veil, shoes, accessories…

🌸Remove price stickers from the soles of shoes.
Yes, I have seen them still there in the photos.

🌸Pack a packet of white chalk.
A tiny bit rubbed over a mark on a white dress can disguise an unexpected smudge until you can deal with it properly.

🌸Put a few hair grips, small safety pins and dressmaking hooks / eyes in an emergency kit.
Particularly if your dress has buttons, a bustle or delicate fastening that might need rescuing.

🌸Photograph the back of your dress before putting it on.
Not because you need another photo…but because if someone needs to recreate the bustle later, they have a reference for exactly how it should look.

🌸Have your jewellery, perfume, shoes, invitation and other details together in one box.
It means your photographer can photograph everything without having to hunt around the room.

🌸If you're wearing new shoes, wear them around the house beforehand.
But also pack plasters.

🌸Ask your florist to leave a few loose flowers/foliage behind.
They can be incredibly useful for styling detail photographs.

🌸If you're wearing a veil, decide who is responsible for carrying / storing it once you take it off.
Otherwise it mysteriously ends up over a chair, under a handbag or being trodden on.

✨Wedding photo myths that simply aren't true.

Things you don't need to worry about when planning your wedding photos...  

Myth 1:

"You need sunshine on your face for beautiful photos"

Not true.

Direct sunlight can actually create harsh shadows, squinting and strong contrast.

Some of the most beautiful wedding photographs happen in soft shade, backlight, cloudy skies or golden hour.

The light matters more than the weather.

Myth 2:

"You need to be good at posing"

Not true.

Most couples tell me they feel awkward in front of the camera - and most are surprised by how natural it ends up feeling.

You don't need to know what to do with your hands or how to stand. I'll give gentle guidance when needed and capture the moments in between.

Myth 3:

"The more photos, the better the photographer"

Not true.

A meaningful wedding gallery isn't about thousands of similar images.

It's about capturing the moments, emotions and people that tell the story of your day.

Myth 4:

"You need hours for couple portraits"

Not true.

You don't need to disappear from your guests for half the day.

Often, 15–20 minutes together is enough to create beautiful portraits - especially when the timing and location are planned well.

Myth 5:

"Rain ruins wedding photos"

Absolutely not true.

Rain can create romantic, atmospheric images and some of the most memorable photographs.

The only thing that ruins photos is spending the whole day worrying about the weather.

Myth 6:

"You have to look at the camera in every photo"

Not true.

Many of the images couples treasure most are the ones where they're laughing, crying, hugging and completely unaware of the camera.

Those are the moments that bring you straight back to how it felt.

Myth 7:

"You need a huge wedding venue for amazing photos"

Not true.

Beautiful photographs come from connection, light and emotion - not the size of your venue.

The most meaningful images can happen anywhere.
