🌟 Long Exposure Photography Workshop 🌟

πŸ“… Sunday, November 3rd
πŸ“ St. Anne's Pier
πŸ•’ 3 PM - 2 Hours

Ready to explore the art of long exposure photography? Join me this Sunday for a hands-on workshop where we'll dive into capturing stunning, ethereal shots right on location!

Book your spot now: https://blackpoolphotographygroup.co.uk/book-event/15237/

The images below show two styles of long exposure. The first is a single RAW exposure (F/13, 0.4 seconds, ISO 100), and the second is a composite of two shots. Personally, I prefer getting the perfect shot directly in-camera rather than spending hours editing β€” and I’m excited to share some techniques with you to help you do the same!

What to bring: πŸ“Έ Digital camera (manual mode)
πŸ“‰ Lowest ISO setting
🌫️ Neutral density filters
πŸ“ Sturdy tripod
🧼 Lens cleaner (filters can get dirty)
🧺 Ground sheet (optional)
πŸ§₯ Warm clothes (you’ll be standing still for most of the session)

Calling my photography network in Blackpool and Fylde. Does anyone have an 18mm lens (or thereabouts) I could borrow, that will fit my Nikon 750 full frame camera? The widest angle I have is a 24mm. Thanks.

This picture was taken back in the day, when I used a Nikon D70 with its kit 18-70mm zoom lens. F 3.5 1/25sec ISO 800.
If I'd had a tripod with me on that trip, I would have used it. If you are using a low shutter speed to allow for low lighting at night and you don't have a tripod, try to support your camera on something steady like the floor or a wall etc. Anything to try to reduce the chance of movement (camera shake). I would have liked greater depth of field but I was nervous about using a higher ISO. I would be more confident now I have my full frame Nikon D750.
How do you manage with your night time photography? Would love to see some of your images.
Thank you Aurora Wild for sharing your late evening shot at Anchorsholme. The light is fabulous.

Struggling to understand your camera settings? You have a fabulous new camera but feel like your photography hasn't improved?
Join me for a meet up in an attractive location, meet new people and learn how to get more from your camera.
Please take a look at https://expertphotography.com/a-beginners-guide-to.../ and bring your questions for me to try to answer on the day.

In the next few days I will be popping some top tips on this group.

Advice for today is to avoid blurry images by learning how to hold your camera. Use your right hand to steady the camera whilst ready to press the shutter release but your left hand is underneath the lens taking most of the weight.

Hold the camera close to your body. I look through the viewfinder to frame my shots so the camera is naturally very close and resting on my face. Try to use the viewfinder if you can, rather than the screen on the back of the camera as you will hold the camera further away from the body and risk movement.

Never hand hold your camera when using shutter speeds less than 1/60 second, unless you are experienced.

This is another photo taken on a trip to Marrakesh.

Hi, have you been given a lovely new camera and would love to start taking photographs but don't know your ISO from your F number?
Maybe you are stuck using your fabulous camera on 'auto' and wondering why some shots work and some just don't.
Then join me for a meet up in an attractive location with like minded people who enjoy photography and want to understand more.

Have a look at Expert Photography https://expertphotography.com/a-beginners-guide-to-photography/ for a quick how to guide.

In the next few days I will be popping some top tips on this group. But my advice for today is just remember that photography is subjective. Don't try to please other people and develop your own idea of what yo want to say with your photographs. Don't be afraid to fail.

I am calling this photograph taken late afternoon in Marrakesh 'Tik Tok' and if you look at it full screen you will see why.

There is a story behind this picture. Not only did I photograph this wedding but I was also the Matron of Honour. Can't believe it was over a year ago. Beautiful day for a beautiful couple.

I was reading James Maher's advice on how to do Street Photography (https://jamesmaherphotography.com/street_photography/what-is-street-photography/).
I agree with him when he says 'Learn to shoot by putting the camera to your eye at first. Shoot from the hip if and when necessary, but get that camera up to your eye as often as you can.'
Personally I find it hard to use the screen to frame my shots as I learnt on film cameras. You do need to know how to set up your camera for street photography. What setting would you use for auto focus? How would you keep control of your aperture and shutter speed but make sure every shot is correctly exposed?
Join me to find out the answer to these questions and more.
