Razorbills (Alca torda) are a sea bird found in coastal areas of the UK with the largest populations being found off the coast of Scotland. These handsome fellows were photographed off Puffin Island near Anglesey. They are in their summer plumage and were searching for food, which usually consists of fish like sprat and sand eels.

The red-tailed bumblebee is found across the UK, they are commonly seen in gardens and hedgerows. The best time to see them is between May and September. They prefer to nest underground or under rocks and stone slabs, but their nest sizes can vary from over 200 individuals to less than 70. I captured this little lady on my dad’s allotment in Stockport.

The Canada Lynx is native to Canada and Alaska residing in forests and woodlands. They are specialist hunters living on a primarily snowshoe hare diet but are partial to rodents and birds if hare is scarce. Although their population is relatively stable, they are threatened by habitat loss through logging and agriculture, this also leads to habitat fragmentation.

The Great Grey Owl (Strix nebulosa) is one of the largest species of owl in the world. Native to Scandinavia, North America, and Northern Asia, they live mainly in evergreen forests. Their diet consists of small mammals and birds, which they hunt for during dawn and dusk, but they have been known to hunt through other daylight hours. They are probably one of my favourite species of owl, never failing to make me smile.

This is a banana morph Royal Python. Naturally Royal Pythons are brown in colour however through selective breeding other colour variations have been disocovered. Royal Pythons are popular pets, however they origionated from West and Central Africa. They get the name Royal Python as throughout the Egyptian era, Pharos (Egyptian 'royalty') would wear live royal pythons as jewelry. They are also more commonly known as Ball Pythons in the US and the pet trade.

The Giant Anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) is native to South America. Living in the grasslands and on the edges of woodlands, they survive on a diet of ants and termites. They live a solitary lifestyle, only coming together to breed, because in order to survive they have to eat around 30,000 bugs every day!

Unfortunately these amazing animals are classified as vulnerable by the IUCN and they are now extinct in 3 South American countries: Guatemala, Uruguay and El Salvador.
