The Hall Players

The Hall Players The Hall Players is an Amateur Dramatic Society based at The Playhouse,Market Street West,Preston,PR1 2HB

The seeds of the Amateur Dramatic Society we know now as "The Hall Players" were sown in about 1960, when a group of St. John Baptist Church parishoners performed a series of plays at the Broughton School Hall. This helped to raise funds for construction of the Parish Hall where all our plays are now held. From these early beginings grew the idea of forming an amateur dramatic society and this was

agreed at a meeting held in the Parish Hall on 7th March 1961. This was followed by the first committee meeting held on April 12th in which the decision was made to call the society, "The Hall Players". On this historic night it was decided that the first production would be the comedy "Quiet Weekend" by Esther McCraken, to be presented in November 1961. Since those early days we have produced over one hundred plays, including the now bi-annual pantomime. Besides the plays we have produced charity nights for raising funds for local and national charities. We have competed in one act play festivals, and we have produced highly successful murder nights for other local groups. As well as the adult group we also run a "Junior Hall Players" for children between the ages of 11 and 18. This group produce their own shows and participate in our pantomimes, and any plays that require a more youthful element. As with any drama society we are always on the lookout for new members, both for acting or backstage. Anyone who wishes to join can contact us from this site.

What do you mean, "I forgot to book my tickets" ? Tonight is your last chance to see None the Wiser.

Welcome to the Stonegate Covent in the late 1960s. A gang of women posing as nuns are operating a successful shoplifting racket. The trouble is that at home in their convent they have to look the part, and when two nuns seeking accommodation appear at the door they can’t turn them away.

It's being being performed in Preston Playhouse's annual fundraiser, An Evening of One Act Plays. It would be a sin to miss it.

Meet the Team

Our production of None the Wiser is directed by Angela Ross. Why did she choose to direct it? "Because its about strong, independent, albeit naughty, women" she says.

Welcome to the Stonegate Covent in the late 1960s. A gang of women posing as nuns are operating a successful shoplifting racket. The trouble is that at home in their convent they have to look the part, and when two nuns seeking accommodation appear at the door they can’t turn them away.
