☀️ At the southernmost point of mainland Britain, Lizard Point is one of Cornwall’s most dramatic coastal locations.

Standing proudly on the headland is Lizard Lighthouse, first established in 1752 to help guide ships safely through the hazardous waters surrounding the peninsula. The area has long been notorious for shipwrecks, with powerful currents, hidden reefs such as the Manacles, and frequent fog creating dangerous conditions for mariners. The current lighthouse, operated by Trinity House, remains an important navigational aid and is a familiar landmark for visitors exploring the South West Coast Path.

☀️ An aerial 360 view of Kynance Cove captured during the heat wave. One of Cornwall's most picturesque locations (and one to avoid on bank holidays!). Best explored at low tide when the turquoise waters are the most stunning, the beach as also has caves that cut through the rocks joining the two small beaches.

☀️ The turquoise waters of Church Cove. This is one of our favourite locations to shoot in Cornwall and one we keep coming back to each year. To the left of the cove you can see the RNLI Lizard Lifeboat station tucked under the cliffs.

🌤️ This week we have a view of the Ben Asdale shipwreck at Maenporth Beach.

The Ben Asdale was a Scottish freezer trawler which wrecked off Maenporth, near Falmouth, on 30 December 1978. While offloading mackerel to a Russian factory ship in Falmouth Bay during a severe gale and snowstorm, a rope fouled the vessel’s rudder, leaving it without steering. As conditions worsened, the trawler broke free and drifted helplessly towards shore. Attempts to anchor failed, and it was driven onto rocks beneath the headland. A dramatic rescue by coastguards and helicopter saved most of the crew, but three men lost their lives. Substantial remains of the wreck are still visible today.
