Ard Rock Day 3 – Swaledale

Plenty of pace on the hillside today. Riders on the open ground first, moving fast through dust, bracken and rock, each section asking for clean lines and a bit of nerve. The course carried that familiar Ard Rock rhythm; bright slopes, tight turns, and the odd heavy spill that drew a wince from the crowd.

By the time they reached Hecklers Wood, the noise lifted. The trees closed in, the atmosphere changed, and every rider dug in for that final push.

A proper finish to a long day on the bike, with Swaledale showing exactly why this event has become such a landmark in the valley.

Swaledale Mountain Rescue at Ard Rock

While I was out photographing the riders today, I caught a few moments of the Swaledale Mountain Rescue team on duty across the hills.

They’ve been out all weekend, a steady presence in the background while the racing unfolds.

Easy to miss in the noise of the event, but they’re the ones keeping everyone safe on these rocky slopes. A few frames felt worth sharing.

Sherburn, Bartley & Sanders brought their mix of concertina, fiddle and guitar to Reeth Memorial Hall tonight.

A close and generous performance, full of rhythm and feeling.

Their storytelling added another layer, gentle humour and moments that drew everyone in between the tunes. The hall was still for the quiet songs and lifted for the lively ones.
