Results just announced! Chuffed to receive a 'Highly Commended' award from Cambridge University Botanic Garden for one of my photos of their Winter Lights in December 2023.

An amazing event and the Garden looked spectacular. Looking forward to this December's event!

Missed out on school photo season? Was your child ill that day? Or maybe they just weren't feeling it when it came to their turn?

We've all been there.

Happily, this half term, the studio will be open for school photos on Friday 27th October, with half-hourly slots through the day for a relaxed photographic experience!

Fully-retouched, high resolution digital images from £25 with packages available for multiple images / multiple children.

Send me a message here or leave a comment and I'll be in touch to arrange a time to suit!

Happy Yorkshire Day!

As a proud (albeit, displaced) Yorkshireman, I wondered what Yorkshire produced that would be appropriate for celebrating the day. Turns out, there was a lot, from the simple to the luxurious.

Here’s an example of the latter…

Ethical Yorkshire Caviar (KC Caviar), served on Yorkshire Crème Fraîche (Longley Farm) on Yorkshire Crisps (Yorkshire Crisps), with Yorkshire Vodka (Yorkshire Spirits).

Caviar on crisps will divide opinion, I’m sure, but there’s no denying it’s delicious...

It’s World Bee Day!

To celebrate, here’s my favourite shot from a visit to RSPB headquarters (RSPB / Rspb Sandy) earlier in the month. The birds eluded me, but I’d tried handheld shooting of bees during lockdown and revisited it for this…a common carder bumblebee having a private moment among the bluebells.

May you have a beautifully buzzy day!

God save the King! Long live the King!

Thank you to Laithwaites for delivering this today - nothing could be more appropriate for toasting His Majesty on this Coronation Day.

An excellent example of English sparkling wine and (say it quietly...) better than Champagne...

I couldn't resist taking a quick photo before popping the cork. Cheers!

Because my Facebook and Instagram won’t talk to each other 🤦‍♂️

Nevertheless, Cambridge in the snow!!! So fortunate to be there as it happened tonight!

‘Have you forgotten yet?

Look down, and swear by the slain of the War that you’ll never forget.’

On a visit to Mersea Island, this view grabbed me and reminded me of the war poems we learned at school but never really grasped - indeed, are fortunate not to be able to fully grasp.

As we observe Armistice Day with two minutes of silence, let us offer our thanks for those who gave their lives - who give their lives - and pray that we may know an end to war and its horrors.

Wear your poppy with pride and never forget.

More optimistic times…

10 years ago, I was lucky enough to be at the Closing Ceremony of London 2012 and watched with optimism as Boris Johnson, then Mayor of London, waved the Olympic Flag and handed over to Rio de Janeiro, extolling the Olympic values:

Excellence, friendship and respect.

Since then, we’ve seen political upheaval, Covid, lockdowns, war, soaring costs, fake news, alternative facts, the climate crisis and enough bad blood to last many generations.

With Boris’s resignation as Prime Minister today, I can only hope that, whatever our political views, we will look back to those Olympic values and begin to move forward in optimism and not recrimination.

Was lucky enough to be taken to the test match at Edgbaston between England and India on Monday. If that wasn’t enough, we were in the members’ area so had an excellent view. Naturally, I brought by camera and a long lens…

I’m not a sports photographer, but I had to try to get a shot of a Joe Root cover drive. Bonus was Virat Kohli in the background, looking on.

It was suggested that I might take a walk today, and I was glad to be kicked out of the office…😬

In my meanderings, I encountered fields of gold…buttercups…

Meldreth has them in abundance at the moment and the sun-loving buttercups were lit up beautifully.

Great way to spend a lunch hour…

British weather, eh? Sometimes it’s like four seasons in one day…

We have a lovely ornamental plum tree in the garden, and it must have been so confused today… A wintry snowstorm to start, followed by gusty autumnal winds (no, it wasn’t a focus issue - go away), some lovely spring sunshine, followed by glorious summery sun.

All in the space of about four hours.

Batten down the hatches and stay safe, everyone!
