Beautiful Portheras Cove, near Morvah. I was there on Saturday to photograph a lovely wedding and I decided to have a quick walk to the beach before everything started. Hiking down there in a suit and tie might not have been my best idea! The sun was shining and there was nobody else for miles. A beautiful backdrop for a beautiful wedding.

Another throwback to Trevaunance Cove in June. You can tell that it was before the summer by how quiet the beach is! Either side of the beach there are beautiful stretches of coast path and I seem to spend much of my time wandering along them. There is some amazing wildlife there if you just take the time to look.

A clouded yellow butterfly. I’ve seen a lot more of these butterflies this year than I usually do which is probably because of the hot summer weather we have had. It is a migrant species that flies here from North Africa and southern Europe.

A hummingbird hawk-moth, one of my favourite little creatures to watch. They can be seen hovering over flowers feeding with their long proboscis. Their wings beat 70 to 85 times per second and they beat so quickly that it makes a humming noise. This year has been a particularly good one for spotting hummingbird hawk-moths and I have been lucky enough to see them on most walks and even in the garden.

It can be easy to fall into the trap of thinking that butterflies are the colourful ones and moths are a bit drab. There are a lot of brown and grey moths but there are many colourful moths too. This is a magpie moth and it is definitely striking. I was very happy to spot this one in a new location a couple of weeks ago.

There is something so peaceful and serene about watching the moon rise. My plan to photograph it rising next to Mithian Church was unfortunately thwarted by a line of cloud and haze on the horizon. However, once it had risen high enough to clear the cloud it was a beautiful pink colour. Then I had a lovely walk home watching the bats darting around.

Friday night sunset at St. Agnes Head. I had a lovely walk to the coast spotting various wildlife in the evening light then watched the sunset, with the crescent moon following on behind. The moon was poking through beautiful pink clouds in the blue sky. Then a peaceful walk home watching bats darting around. Perfect!
