What some of you lovely mums see when you open your gallery: your body not looking how you remember or prefer it to look; lines around your eyes; nails that you forgot to paint; the “wrong side” of your face (IYKYK); an extra chin.

What your children see?

The body that grew them, birthed them and gives the best cuddles.

Laughter lines from playing, giggling and having the best time with them.

Nails with playdough under them from when you made that amazing playdough monster yesterday and maybe a broken nail or two because you’re the best at separating those thin Lego pieces.

Your face. Which they love. Because it’s yours. (And let’s face it, nobody else notices which side of our face is “better” because nobody looks as critically at our faces as we do ourselves.)

And the chins? The chins probably form the view of our face that they see and love the most because, as the incredible Teri Hofford pointed out to a wonderful group of photographers I had the pleasure of spending a weekend with last year, our children spend a huge proportion of their time seeing us looking down towards them, whether we’re holding them against our chest as newborns, holding their hand while they take wobbly toddler steps or walking with them to the park belting out songs from their favourite film. The chins are there. At least two of them. Our children don’t see them. They just see mum.

They see the way you smile when they bring you a flower they found during your shoot. They see the way you close your eyes and breathe them in when you hold them. They see the way you smile at your fellow parent in that moment of calm and still during your photoshoot after one of their siblings had had a 15 minute meltdown.

So do me a favour.

When you get your gallery, don’t critique how you look. Instead, show the photos to your children and watch their reaction. It’ll completely change how you look at those photos, especially the ones with you in.

One of the very first newborns I photographed is going to be a big sister 🤍

I’ve photographed this little lady 10 times now and what better way to mark her 10th shoot than by announcing that she’s getting a sibling.

Outdoor sessions are the absolute best for families with children who are over 1. Lots of space, lots of fresh air and lots of time to just focus on having fun together.

Congratulations M & I (and of course to F, who thinks that baby is in fact growing in her own tummy 😂☺️)

Why get a sitter session just for you and your baby?

To me, the question really is why wouldn’t you?

Just a short snippet of time out of your everyday. You and your baby. No distractions. Nothing to do except breathe them in.

And what do we document? All those little things you do everyday which don’t seem huge now but you’ll miss when time flashes by and suddenly your baby has all too quickly grown into a walking, talking, oh-so-independent little person.

So book the session. Kiss their tiny toes, breathe in the smell of their hair, squish those gorgeous back rolls, snuggle up, letting their fingers grip onto yours, tickling them until they let out that gorgeous chuckle.

“Mama & me” sitter sessions, just for you and baby, are available in the studio or in outdoor locations around Salisbury all year round.

Then and now.

When I get an enquiry email from a past client, my heart sings. Getting to know you and seeing your babies grow while being trusted to document different stages of your motherhood just doesn’t get old.

Some clients come back every year, some every 6 months, some book in on a random whim whenever the feeling takes them.

Whenever you feel is right, I’ll be here!

And if you don’t know when the “right” time is but you know you want some photos of you with your babies (be they tiny or teenage), I always find that the best time is often right now 🤍

We don’t say cheese here.

Because “smile for the camera” doesn’t get you photos of your little one’s actual smile.

Instead, we walk. We chat. We play. We let the children take the lead and we don’t force them to follow our exact agenda.

So if you want photos of your family that really feel like “you”, get in touch. I only have a few spots left for summer outdoor shoots.

“What if my baby is unsettled?”

I get asked this a lot.

And honestly? It’s normal for your baby to be a little unsettled at least once during a session. If you come to my studio, it’s a new place with a new person and they’ve probably had a nice sleep in the car before being rudely awakened and taken out of their car seat to come through to the studio!

But.

Unsettled babies are never a problem. We’ll work out what they need, make sure they’ve got it, and keep everything nice and slow, relaxed and unpressured. I’m also very well practised at swaying, bouncing and cuddling babies to help them relax (and honestly? It’s one of the best parts of the job!)

This is a moment where I want you to be present and enjoy the time we spend together and troubleshooting things than crop up at a newborn shoot is all part of the service!
