🌿 GREEN ROOTS
Throwback to the fabulous Green Roots x Multistory project in West Bromwich!
Documenting the green spaces around West Bromwich and interviewing local residents of the Sandwell area to see how they felt about the green issues and what improvements they felt could be made.
Here is what some of them had to say:
David & Cath - local allotment owners in Sandwell:
“I have lived in Sandwell my whole life. I am in my 80’s now and my first allotment here was 31 years ago.
We grow vegetables- potatoes, onions, runner beans, broad beans, cabbages… it attracts all kinds of wildlife, and any green space left in Sandwell should be preserved. Having the green space during Covid helped with our mental health.”
Liberty and Kayley, Dartmouth Park:
“I remember when there were paddling pools here when we were younger, we used to visit the Arboretum & Sandwell Valley Farm too. It holds great memories and I think that’s why we keep coming back. It’s a great meeting place for us when we’re not at work.”
Jane, Warrens Hall:
“I am a volunteer for the Warren Hall and Bumble Hole conservation group, I am a resident of Sandwell and lived here for 36 years. The reserve has always been a part of my family’s life, and a beautiful place to watch my children grow. This site is a testament to the hard work of Sandwell rangers and the volunteers who give up their free time to keep it looking beautiful. Lockdown was a really difficult time for me, and volunteering here helped me get my life back.”
