If you’re expecting a baby, I want you to watch this. 🤰🏼

It’s almost impossible to imagine just how much your baby will change in their first year.

At first, they’re impossibly tiny and curled up. Then one day they’re sitting in front of you, smiling and showing you exactly who they are. And somehow, before you quite know how you got there, you’re celebrating their first birthday.

I get to photograph all three of these stages, and I think that’s one of the loveliest parts of what I do.

Because when you put them side by side, you realise just how much happens in one little year.

Nobody tells you quite how quickly they stop looking brand new.

When we talk about the newborn stage, it sounds as though it lasts for ages.

But this really tiny stage - the curled-up, brand-new stage you see here - is incredibly short. In newborn photography terms, we’re often talking about those first two or three weeks.

That’s it.

Babies change so quickly in those early weeks. They begin to uncurl, become more alert, and that brand-new newborn look starts changing almost before you’ve had time to take it in.

It’s one of the reasons I photograph newborns so early. Not because there aren’t beautiful photographs to be made afterwards - there absolutely are - but because this particular stage only exists for such a short time.

When you get to help plan your own birthday photoshoot… ✨

This lovely young lady came to me to celebrate her upcoming birthday, and she already had ideas about how she wanted her photos to feel.

She helped shape the brief, chose the kind of location she wanted, and most importantly, wanted the session to be fun.

So that’s exactly what we did.

A little bit of planning, plenty of personality and a gorgeous summer morning to make it all come together.

One day you're waiting to meet them......and suddenly they are here 🤰👩‍🍼

I had the pleasure of photographing Laura before little one arrived, and then I welcomed the whole family back for her newborn session.

Laura chose these beautiful blue tones for her maternity shoot and we incorporated the same colour into her newborn shoot to tie the two together.

Every now and then, it’s nice to step away from the studio and photograph something completely different.

Last night I spent a few hours wandering around Margate with my camera club, capturing whatever caught my eye.

No elaborate planning. No posing. Just genuine moments and lovely evening light.
