A slow wander around Simonside 🌿

I went out looking for snakes on Thursday; spotted one adder which swiftly disappeared without being photographed (honest), 3 common lizards, a couple of millipedes and a few cool bugs!

It’s amazing what you can spot if you move about at snail pace!

36 glorious hours in the Lake District for the launch of the Explorer GTX Mid 🥾

The Explorer GTX is the lightweight, resolable follow up to the best selling Renegade and we had the best time testing them out!

First up was a boot fitting with coffee and a catch up with the team followed by a navigation session up a rather windy Place Fell.

Can we all take a moment for the weather we’re getting at the moment?! 🌞

That evening we were treat to a stunning al fresco dinner, many, many laughs and a talk through Tim’s holiday photos (sorry, Everest summit 😂)

Hallin Fell for breakfast before we said our goodbyes made for the perfect end to a very wholesome event.

Northumberland is an absolute treasure trove for us outdoor enthusiasts, so recently I tasked myself with visiting the very best of its waterfalls!

Some way more challenging than others to reach but all worth the effort!

Buachaille Etive Mor via Curved Ridge - an epic grade II scramble into the clouds made slightly less daunting by the limited visibility!

Definitely one for a return journey in clearer conditions! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

AD - Found our new favorite sanctuary!

📍 Sandpiper Lodge

This stunning lodge is nestled away near Wingate, County Durham and overlooks Hurworth Burn Reservoir.

It’s incredibly grounding staying by a nature reserve; stepping away from a busy world, slowing down, witnessing an abundance of wildlife, reconnecting, all with zero distractions.

We spent our time cooking, relaxing by the fire and looking up at the stars from bed (thanks to a wonderfully satisfying skylight!)

Sandpiper was spacious, sleek, and perfectly designed for rest - I can’t recommend a sunrise hot tub enough!

Nestled in the heart of Northumberland is the birthplace of the world’s most famous tea blend! 🍃

Earl Grey tea wasn’t created for a fancy brand, but as a solution to a plumbing problem at Howick Hall!

The 2nd Earl Grey (British Prime Minister and resident of the hall) found that the local spring water at Howick Hall was extremely high in lime. To mask the mineral taste of the water, a visiting Chinese mandarin supposedly blended black tea with bergamot oil for the Earl and his wife.

The blend was such a hit at Lady Grey’s London dinner parties that tea merchants were soon asked to replicate it. Ironically, because the family never trademarked the name “Earl Grey,” they never made a single penny in royalties from the global sales of the tea!

Nothing beats a Northumberland escape, and our stay at Battlesteads Hotel & Observatory was pure magic ✨

From the moment we arrived, we were wrapped in those perfect, cosy pub vibes. That evening we indulged in the 8 course tasting menu with a glass or two of organic wine.

After dinner, we headed to their on-site dark sky observatory. The 2 hour stargazing session with Rita was absolutely fascinating; we were blessed by the weather gods and learned so much about the night sky - I’m still not over the grand finale when we turned the telescope towards the Moon!

Battlesteads is the perfect base for exploring, too. We were only 22 minutes away from Steel Rigg, where we caught a breathtaking sunrise over Hadrian’s Wall before heading back to the hotel for a well deserved breakfast. Whether you’re looking to explore Northumberland or just want to cosy up, this place is a must visit.

Make sure you save this for your next Northumberland stay!
