I took a trip out to the Darent Valley around Lullingstone, Kent, this morning to check out some wild flower meadows. I also had a look at how the lavender fields at Castle Farm are coming along (nicely!) and walked along to Lullingstone Castle as last year the field in front of it was covered with poppies. Strangely, there was not a trace of a single poppy in the same field!

Bluebells part 3 - Sublime conditions out in the Kent countryside last Sunday morning - I'd actually gone back to bed after the post beer & curry silly o'clock alarm call but then 5 minutes later I forced myself to get back up and out - as always, it's worth the pain afterwards 😂

Bluebells part 2!

Yesterday was a visit to the National Trust's Emmett's Garden which has long had a beautiful swathe of bluebells on the steep slope leading away from the formal gardens. More manicured than other sites, and much less cluttered in terms of undergrowth, I also find it more challenging to photograph! I also put in a shot of the rather splendid blossom and tulip display as this was very beautiful to see.

It's that time of the year again! - first bluebell pics of the season from this morning. They still need a week or so to peak but there was enough colour about to make some shots. These were all taken within 20 minutes of each other showing how the changing light at dawn can change the mood and composition!

Couple of pics from a recent trip out to the poppy fields at Lullingstone. Caught in the golden hour and backlit by the setting sun, the poppies took on a life of their own.

Some pics from Stodmarsh and Elmley Marshes nature reserves in Kent today - started with a Robin (good to get something I couldn't see in the garden after 1.5 hours driving... 😂), common tern, hobby, female marsh harrier flying towards me for once.... some swallows (gutted I missed the edge off the fledgling) and finishing with owl action including a short eared taking offense at the appearance of the barn owl!

I've never really mixed my bird watching with photography before as I am not confident at all I could get shots as good as some of the nature shots I see but I'm happy with these and, with more practise, hope to get some improvement!

Spent yesterday at Elmley Marshes and what a day it was! It started with a bittern poking its head up warily before stalking across the track in front of us (life tick for me!!) and which ended with a hunting Barn Owl at 5.50pm with lots of other great stuff in between despite a rather relentless 'breeze.'
