Our Little Lion, Woody

I’ve been searching and collecting lions around South Yorkshire, but this little lion found me over ten years ago. He was my neighbour’s cat, but over time and many trips over to see me, we bonded. My neighbour moved, and at a chance encounter at the local tip over six years ago, where she was moving again but couldn’t have pets, meant we were reunited! My mum and I have looked after him ever since, and he quickly became family.

Everybody who met Woody instantly loved him, and he would soon be on a stranger’s knee, such a loving cat.

As more of an indoor cat and because we have a small garden, I always struggled to get a variety of shots and with scenery and backgrounds I love. When his health and weight were declining, I thought one last little adventure, and where better than barlowsunflowers? We’ve visited a few times over the years, and the owners have always been so accommodating for me as a photographer but also for my mum’s birthday and now with Woody. It was such a special evening with gorgeous scenery, light, and plenty of tears. Woody seemed to perk up, and I think he enjoyed the attention from everybody!

Unfortunately after over a week without food as he couldn’t keep anything down, he was deteriorating rapidly.

Today we said goodbye, our memories together immortalised in the many pictures taken.

Sleep well, Woody ###

Not the result we wanted but Summer goes on and wow this heatwave shows no sign of stopping!

Could the heather bloom early? It won’t be long either way! It’s one of the best times to see your favourite places and subjects out in the Peak!

I can’t wait for my annual leave to get back out here! Say hi if you see me out, I do miss some friendly faces in this community 😃💜

150 down 150 to go!

I’m at the half way point on my little Summer mission to Photograph and collect all 300 Lions, Lioness’s and cubs on the Pride of Yorkshire | Sculpture Trail ! I’m really enjoying exploring more of my home county that I’ve maybe driven past but never fully explored!

I can see how much time, money and energy this project has taken and from all the smiles I’ve seen and enthusiasm out on the trail I would say it’s absolutely worth it!

Have you spotted many yet? I’m having a little break this weekend but hope to be back on the trail soon! See you out there😃

I’m always on the look out for new subjects, to test my skills and learn something new so Stomp South Yorkshire a Photography community and social group was something I was eager to join in with. Sheffield has such fantastic array of scenes and subjects but where do you start? A group like this is a great step and I’m hoping to join in on my walks in the future! Thank you to everyone involved in this 😃

The Pride of Yorkshire has arrived.

Scattered across South Yorkshire, these beautifully designed lion sculptures celebrate the creativity, character and community spirit that make this county so special. Each lion tells its own story, transforming the streets, parks and public spaces into an open-air gallery for everyone to enjoy.

I spent the afternoon in the city Center seeing as many as possible and I’m looking forward to travelling to spots I’ve not visited on the way to photographing all 300!

Graves Park is 100 !!🎉

Yesterday marked 100 years since Graves Park officially opened its gates to the people of Sheffield. Gifted by J.G. Graves in 1926, this much-loved green space has been a place for generations to walk, play, explore and connect with nature. From ancient woodland and wildlife to the animal farm and open parkland, it remains one of Sheffield’s greatest treasures. This place got me through covid and is always a source of inspiration when I’m not sure where to take my camera!

Here’s to a century of memories, and many more still to be made.

Summer time is here! I find Summer a tricky season to Photograph because the golden hours I like to photograph in are very early and late. Until the heather blooms in the Peak District I’m always unsure what to photograph.

The are always nice to check in on, a couple of hours with these guys in the stunning surroundings always grounds me and gets my focus back on track.

Seaside & Rainbows

I had a short break in Tenby last week. When we arrived, we were greeted with heavy rain, but soon the sunshine came out and we were spoiled with a few rainbow sightings!

It was funny because ITV Studios were filming a murder mystery, and as the director said “ACTION,” this first rainbow appeared! Naturally, I was running around trying my best to get some shots, but it’s always tough when it’s a location you don’t know that well . Luckily for me, the rainbow kept lining up with some of the local landmarks, which helped!

Unfortunately, the weather stopped us getting to Skomer this year, but we still had a fab time. There’s so much to do around Pembrokeshire, and it really is a stunning part of the UK!

I’ve got more to share from this costal National Park 😃
