I’ve had a fantastic week photographing the across the UK. We started in London and made our way back up north. There are so many wonderful parks to see these magical beasts! It felt like the rut was just getting underway at most of the parks, have all these heatwaves delayed it this year?

sent me their brilliant 135mm f1.8 lens for the Z mount to take with me on my travels! I’ve been excited to test this lens as I love a blurry portrait and it really delivers with creamy, dreamy background blur and lovely bokeh balls!

A 135mm lens is a great focal length for all sorts of subjects. With fast autofocus and a metal build at a great value price, this is a fantastic choice to try with your favourite subjects!

*The close-up shots were taken in a location where the deer come up close to a fence.

Stag Do

Thank you for the support on my shortlisted image “Stag Do” I thought I’d share some of the images leading up to my shortlisted image! This behaviour might be surprising to some but it’s pretty common during this time of the year. Inter-male mounting is a behaviour seen in younger bucks and current research shows it’s not always about dominance. There is a build-up of testosterone towards the rut peaking and it can be a way of releasing this energy also a way of learning adult courtship behaviour.

I think what makes these images is the light which was stunning and added to the overall atmosphere.

Shortlisted in Land animal & Pets and domesticated animal categories!

I’m really happy to announce that I have two images shortlisted in this years 🇬🇧 The British Photography Awards

I had to retract Woolly Jumper from the 2024 shortlist as it had just placed in the CountryFile calendar and it would have breached their terms, to have another chance and it get shortlisted again is absolutely fantastic!

Stag Do and this example of inter-male mounting was not on my photography bingo card last year! It was a surprising experience and slightly awkward to watch with my Mum in tow 🤣 a good friend of mine said I should enter this series in some competitions, I wasn’t sure how they would be taken, but I’m glad I have as it has shortlisted in another competition!

Highlands are a hit in the home!!

If you’ve been to a country craft fair over the years you already knew this, but highland cows have got even more trendy in the home with all the big brands stocking their own range of highland cow themed products!

I much prefer to be out with them in nature but it’s nice so many places are offering products themed around our favourite fluffy friends! Do you have any highland cow items at home?

Chatsworth Country Fair 2026

The balloons only managed one take-off this year, but it was a brilliant one with so many balloons and plenty of opportunities to touch the water for that bottle of ch*****ne 🍾

I found the communication really good this year with updates about the weather and if they were taking off. Thank you Chatsworth when I saw they were flying on Saturday evening. I had to dash over! I then visited the main show on Sunday with my best friends. I took my camera but tried to be in the moment more.

I hope you enjoyed it if you visited! I’ve seen a few negative comments on socials about the price of tickets, and I just think where else are you going to see so many big spectacles like the Royal British Legion Red Arrows and multiple times over the weekend for around £30 a ticket ? Also, the balloon display is free, and there’s free parking! There’s so much to see and do! We took a picnic to save some pennies. You can book your tickets for next year’s show with an early bird discount before 30th September.

Summer is fading but Autumn is coming!

There’s something special about that brief moment between seasons. The greens begin to change, mornings feel cooler, and the Peak District starts to take on a completely different character.

For wildlife and landscape photography, it’s one of my favourite times of year! rutting deer, misty valleys, golden light and the first hints of autumn colour.

A new season of moments to chase.
