This morning from Glastonbury Tor.
A misty start over Somerset, the Levels stretched out in fields, hedges and farms, with the first colour just coming into the sky.
The first picture is the super-wide panoramic. Facebook will almost certainly turn it into a 360, which isn’t how it was meant to be seen. Everything after that is from the same view: closer looks at the mist, the fields and the light that get lost in the wide frame.
Same morning. Same spot. Just stepping into the panorama.

Glastonbury Tor - sunrise this morning.
You can’t actually see the sun, but there’s this wonderful wavy cloud formation off to the left of the Tor. I’m not entirely sure of the proper name, they look a bit like waves rolling across the sky. I copied a bit of the cloud into Google and it came back with Asperitas.
The second picture is just a closer look at the same scene.

Glastonbury Tor - Panoramic
Still continuing from yesterday’s lovely sunrise, here’s the super-wide version, also showing part of Glastonbury town and the famous Wearyall Hill.

Not to most people’s taste, but I love these for the extra detail (depending on which platform you’re viewing from).

Tech note: the original file is 1.5GB (reduced to 6MB for upload), made up of many separate frames stitched together.

Glastonbury Tor
Last one from Sunday’s twilight, I promise 😊
For anyone thinking this was flown in close: the drone was about 900 metres away, just over half a mile from St Michael’s Tower.
Hinkley Point is roughly 20 miles off in the distance, and only looks nearby because of telephoto compression.
Enjoy the view.

Glastonbury Tor at sunset this evening.

Two frames from 19:45 - the wider view across the hill, then a closer look at St Michael’s Tower. The sky had an odd pink streak sitting under the cloud, almost like a second layer of light that didn’t quite match the rest of the evening. A few people still on the summit as the colour faded.

Sunrise over Glastonbury Tor – 06:25 this morning

Woke up early and it was worth every minute. The sky over the Tor put on a proper show this morning – those pink and peach clouds stretching across Somerset as the light slowly hit St Michael’s Tower.

There’s something special about seeing the countryside wake up from this angle: the patchwork fields, the edge of Glastonbury Town, and that unmistakable hill standing watch over it all.

Early morning on the Somerset Levels, 06:37.
Glastonbury Tor rises in the distance, St Michael’s Tower catching a faint glow as the sun tries to break through.
Two swans drift along the River Brue, the water so still it doubles the reeds and the storm-cloud sky.
This is the flat, reclaimed wetland that once made the Tor an island. The Brue winds through it as both river and drain, a landscape of rhynes, peat, and old stories of Avalon.

Taken 600 metres away from the Tor, about 20 minutes before sunset.
Evening light settles over the summit as St Michael’s Tower stands against layered cloud and fading gold. Visitors wander while the Somerset Levels stretch out below. To the right, St John’s Church looks far closer than it really is.
