It can be very easy for pregnancy photographs to become entirely about Mum and the bump, but there’s another person standing on the edge of a pretty enormous life change too.

Including your partner gives us photographs that tell a slightly different story. It’s the two of you before you meet this new little person, when you know everything is about to change but you’ve got absolutely no idea yet what they’ll look like, what their personality will be or quite how much stuff one tiny baby can apparently require.

Partners are always welcome to be involved in maternity sessions, even if they claim they “hate having their photo taken”. I hear that one a lot. 😉

Before the cake arrives and absolute carnage begins, there’s always room for some beautiful first birthday portraits too 😂

I love including these because turning one is such a brilliant age to photograph. They’ve got expressions, opinions and a rapidly developing personality, but there’s still so much baby about them too. The little feet, round cheeks and those serious faces that can disappear into a grin half a second later.

So a first birthday session doesn’t have to be all cake. We can make sure you have some clean, timeless portraits alongside all the messy ones as well.

Sibling goals right here!

Including your older child or children in the newborn session is such a lovely thing to do. Beautiful images of them for you, and a sense of belonging and inclusion for them.

There’s no rule saying maternity photography has to be romantic and floaty.

Sometimes I want to photograph pregnancy exactly as it is. A changing body, a growing bump and a woman who still very much looks like herself.

I really like the strength of portraits like this. They feel uncomplicated, modern and confident without needing lots of props or elaborate styling.

Your session should give you photographs with some variety, because you probably don’t fit neatly into one style either. Most of us don’t.

So small!

I love to show how tiny your little one is in comparison to your lovingly placed hands, because they really won't stay that size for very long!

One thing I hear quite often is, “I’d love maternity photographs, but I don’t feel confident enough.”

The confidence usually comes after you’ve seen the photographs, not before.

You aren’t expected to walk into the studio knowing how to pose or feeling amazing from every angle. I’ll guide you through your position, your hands, where to look and all the tiny adjustments that make such a difference on camera.

So please don’t make confidence a requirement for booking. Bring the bump. I’ll help with the rest.

These moments are the ones your little one will be most fascinated by.

"Mum, what did you look like when I was born?"

"Dad, did you have a beard when I was little?"

And with images like these, you can show them not only how you all looked, but show them that love too.

Back to work as normal today after the summer holidays! Thinking of all my tiny clients (and their parents!) who are starting school today, have the most amazing time!

This week is super busy with 6 sessions over the next 5 days. Started with a wonderful little smasher this afternoon for his first birthday!

I've now got very limited availability for the rest of September.

I’m not sure whether the spoon is for eating the cake or asserting authority over the entire photoshoot, but either way I think she’s nailed it 😂

Cake smash sessions are never just about photographing a baby sitting politely behind a cake. The funny expressions, the icing covered faces, the crawling off, the enthusiastic destruction and all the bits you couldn’t possibly plan are usually what make the gallery.

If your little one has a first birthday coming up, it’s worth booking ahead so there’s plenty of time to talk about styling and get everything organised. Then they can concentrate on the important job of making an almighty mess.
