Raining on your big day?

Yeah, nah, just get on with it aye?! 🤗🤗

Don’t let a bit of water spoil things, go with the flow! Make provisions, changes, whatever. Don’t miss out on the fun, the rain can be a giggle and sometimes, you can even use it to your advantage to get unique photos to you as it rained on YOUR day.

All of these weddings had downpours at some point in the day at the most inconvenient of times. But everybody was also more than happy to say “EFF IT, LETS GO” and fly in the face of logic and make epic photos!

I won’t stop if you don’t, so check the forecast, take the provisions in case and succumb to the mad British weather cos we can’t change it! So roll with it. I will if you will 🤣

Holding it back. All getting a bit overwhelming

Nearly done. Big breath and we can laugh!

Moments like this shouldn’t be missed. I am an analytical, observational kinda guy. I watch people. I use my science background to work things out. Be in right places, timings, light and so on.

It may sound overly rigid and structured but those skills from my science days allow me to be free. Picasso is known for his cubism, but he could really really classically drawn. The basics allowed his imagination to fly.

I’m not in a million years Picasso 🤣🤣 But the principles are the same. I get photos like this by using skills I know. Patience and finding the decisive moment. Attention to detail and so on.

These moments are only happening once. And I am ON it!!!

My science background comes in very handy a lot of the time.

Most photographers talk about their heart. I am usually thinking about the physics of the light for a shot like this. What will happen? Where will it bounce? What colour will it be? Can I get it to do what I want for an idea? Once I’ve done that, I follow my instincts.

Set the idea. The couple do their thing, experiment, shoot. Boom!

This is a perfect example. Backlight gives a halo effect but also a really lovely star effect from flashes. The couple are outlined in light, the flashes bring some pizzazz to the shot. The colour was always going to be like the wood and it’s a dark evening, so everything would stand out. I don’t do this kind of shot ALL the time. Circumstances, location, timing…all has to be right. But when it is…..it’s so so worth it. Just ask and at 🤗 Check out Jade’s evening outfit and the dancing shoes eh? That’s how to do it!

Saturdays banger!!!

Over at the gorgeous in Ely, Lucy and Philip had a big old “pre official” wedding party in the outdoors, in the sun.

This day had everything. We had a tent for people to play music (the couple are big into music), we had a children’s disco, we had space hoppers (of course), bouncy castle to be enjoyed by everyone, pizzas, afternoon teas, the lot!

Lucy and Philip, despite the reservations about having their photos taken, absolutely smashed it! 30 seconds into the couples shoot, they were simply just enjoyibg each others company and having a giggle!

I love days like this. Loose, easy, free flowing, loads to do, a chilled couple…..fantastic!

What a privilege to be part of!

Some want smoke bombs!

Which do I prefer? I don’t care. As long as you are having the best time of your lives and I can capture it.

But bring the fun. Bring the laughs. Bring the happy.

I guess it’s assumed I only shoot the chaos at weddings. And yeah, I do shoot that. But not always!

Equally obsessed with light and the trick? Getting everything all at once. If it means lighthearted and in the moment, I’ll make an idiot of myself and hopefully make you laugh 🤣 If a romantic moment that’s off the cuff, then I’m going to make the most of that….and give you more time.

Whatever is there, it’s about making you, the light, the moment look real and the best it can be. And if I can chuck a little bit of creativity in with that, everyone’s happy!

Every now and then, you photograph a couple and their wedding and you think “these are MY people”.

Absolutely uncontrollable from start to finish in the very best possible way 🤣

I love ALL my couples. All weddings, as I have said before, are completely different. And I love them all.

But when it clicks, it clicks. And you get chaos. But colourful, joyous chaos. And I’m here for it!

Be yourselves. Bring the silly. Bring the nerdy. Bring the geeky. Bring the neurospicy (and I’ll match you 🤣). Bring the jump about and be mad! Bring whatever you want to your wedding. It’s your day!!!

I’ve been doing this long enough now to know the difference between a photo that looks pleasing and can make you go “wow” and a photo that means something more.

Is one more a good wedding photo than the other?

Nope!

It all has its place. For me the good wedding photos capture something of that moment. It might be a set up shot that the couple want. It might be a moment between two people that would have been missed otherwise. It might be how light hits perfectly at the right time making a mundane photo into something really special. It might be a moment of candid madness! It’s all important but the “good” photos resonate. They resonate some way with the couple and those they have shared those photos with.

Those are the good photos. Check out the ones above. All are different. Moments of emotion, moments of silly, moments unexpected and moments that are what was asked for. Moments of sheer chaos! Moments of calm and reflection. Each one the couple has loved for it captured a moment in time in their amazing day.

So you want a photographer who can see stuff and capture stuff that you might not see? Someone who can adapt and make photos not just for what they see but what you WANT? I might be that guy! Let’s chat!!!

This is exactly what I am going for……every time

“John is an incredible photographer – not only does he take amazing shots, but he is also the friendliest person and put both us and our guests at ease. We had seen some of John’s work on Instagram before we reached out to him (take a look and you’ll see how fabulous his work is) and from the moment we first reached out to him we were met with warmth and openness. We arranged a Zoom call and he was genuinely interested to hear about us as a couple and our vision of our big day. He also helped put us in touch with our fantastic videographer. The pre-wed shoot with John was also a brilliant bonus (which most photographers make you pay extra for!) because it really got us used to the camera and how it’d be on the big day. Plus we got some extra lovely photos of us to treasure.

When it came to the big day John was there bright and early, despite me having an earlier than usual getting ready time. He fitted in so well with the wedding party and our other suppliers. He somehow achieved an incredible balance of being friendly and chatty but also blending in so that we didn’t ever feel uncomfortable, sometimes we forgot he was there (in a good way!). Our guests absolutely loved him as well, we had so many people raving about him afterwards! The shots he took were beautiful – the perfect mix of the usual “staged” shots (with family etc) but also some really lovely candid shots. He also has an incredible artistic flare, we got our photos a while back now but whenever we look through our gallery we just keeping saying “wow” over and over!

John really felt like a part of the family and we were genuinely sad to say goodbye to him at the end of the day. We really cannot recommend John highly enough!”
