Our staff have years of experience both filming on location and in kit hire with extensive knowledge for working in broadcast and documentaries. Our kits are build and prepared by camera operators for camera operators with an attention to detail and a level of support 2nd to none. Specialising in supplying kit and crews for

long form documentaries we have sent our kit and crews worldwide from the North Pole to the Weddell Sea, from Desert to Jungle and all extremes in between.

We've been a little quiet on here recently, and thats a good sign!

Over the past few months we’ve multiple added new cameras and lenses into the fleet, turned around some large returning hires, and sent multiple fresh packages back out onto productions around the UK and beyond.

More importantly, it genuinely feels like crews are back out there filming again. Productions are moving, stories are being told, and kit is heading off to locations instead of sitting on shelves. After a challenging few years for so many across the industry, that’s something worth celebrating.

So we wanted to give a a huge thank you to all the production teams, camera crews, PMs, coordinators and clients continuing to trust us with their shoots. We love seeing our equipment out in the field doing what it was built for.

30 Years of Mad Dogs TV

Over the past three decades, television production technology has changed dramatically. Cameras have become smaller, lighter and far more capable. Tape has given way to digital media. Workflows that once took hours can now happen in minutes.

But despite all the advances in technology, many of the fundamentals of television production have stayed exactly the same.

Good planning still matters.
Reliable equipment is still essential.

Experienced crews are still the difference between getting the shot and missing the moment. Whether it’s a large broadcast series or a small location shoot, those principles are just as important today as they were thirty years ago.

At Mad Dogs we have been supporting productions since 1996, providing equipment and technical expertise to help crews work efficiently wherever the story takes them. The tools may evolve, but the craft of making great television remains the same.

30 Years of Mad Dogs TV

Thirty years ago, when we first started, television cameras looked very different. Looking back at the technology of the mid-1990s shows just how much the tools of television production have evolved.

Large shoulder mounted broadcast cameras were the standard. Built solid, reliable and designed to run all day on location. They recorded standard definition pictures in a 4:3 ratio onto tape, often with black and white viewfinders and sound crews physically tethered to the camera operator!

Today, a camera like the Sony FX6 can deliver broadcast quality images from a package small enough to sit in the palm of your hand. Offering crystal clear 4K resolution, built-in wireless audio options and impressive autofocus.

Smaller cameras have changed how programmes are made. Crews can travel lighter, move faster and work in places that would have been far more difficult with traditional broadcast rigs.

But some things don't change, Great television still depends on the same fundamentals: Good storytelling, experienced crews and equipment that works reliably when the moment matters.

Mad Dogs has been supporting productions since 1996, and it has been fascinating to see how the tools evolve while the craft stays the same.

Airing Saturday mornings on ITV, with eight episodes ready to watch and two more coming soon.

We were delighted to support long-term client Rock Oyster Media by providing all production kit for the series, as well as crew including DIT, drone and camera assistant.

From vibrant food sequences to sweeping island landscapes, this was a production that demanded strong data management, reliable camera workflows and dynamic aerial coverage. Supporting both equipment and crew allowed us to help ensure a smooth pipeline from capture through to delivery.

Dr Bob’s Wild Diaries is now showing on the Outdoor Channel, and we’re proud to have supported long-term client Rare TV with the camera kit.

For this series we built a small, travel-ready FX6 package for a crew working constantly on the move. Lightweight enough to fly easily, tough enough for life on location, and capable of delivering beautiful images.

Sony FX6, Sony G Master lenses, Minicams, Compact location and cockpit audio kit

A big collection day here, with 24 flight cases heading out for a returning series and a wonderful repeat client!

When a production is filming away for long periods, the pressure on kit is very real. There’s no popping back to base if something small has been missed, and no margin for error once the cameras are rolling. That’s why so much of the work happens long before anything leaves the building.

This hire includes multiple FX6 shooting PD camera kits, over 30 minicams, a wide range of lenses and supporting equipment. Everything has been packed to fly, clearly labelled, logically laid out, and checked so crews can find what they need quickly on location. Alongside the essentials, we’ve made sure sensible spares and backups are included, covering the things that tend to get heavily used or can stop a shoot in its tracks if they fail.

We know that filming away from home for weeks or months at a time is demanding enough without worrying about whether the kit will hold up. Our aim is to make that side of things as straightforward as possible, so crews can focus on the job in front of them, confident that the equipment has been thought through properly.

It’s always a good feeling to see this many cases lined up and ready to go, and even better when it’s for a client who keeps coming back.

We’re proud to be continuing our long-running involvement with Digging for Britain, now airing with its latest series on BBC Two.

We’ve been supporting the programme since series 9, and for the new series we supplied studio cameras, DIT, a jib and an experienced jib operator for the tent segments, supporting the production team on location throughout the shoot.

Produced by Rare TV the series combines complex technical requirements with fast-moving schedules, and it’s a great example of how tailored equipment solutions and experienced crew can make a real difference on location.

It’s always a pleasure to collaborate on long-running factual series like this, and to continue supporting productions with reliable kit and people who understand the realities of broadcast television.

One of the most requested cameras in our hire fleet continues to be the Sony ILME-FX6, and we’ve recently added more to meet growing demand.

The FX6 has become a trusted choice for documentary, factual entertainment and broadcast productions thanks to its compact size, strong low-light performance and straightforward workflow. It’s a camera that works brilliantly on fast-moving shoots without compromising on image quality or reliability.

We regularly supply FX6 packages on both dry and wet hire, supporting productions with everything from lenses and audio to power, support and experienced crew. Our FX6 kits are built for real-world shooting and come fully configured as standard with SmallRig shoulder mounts, quick release Shape extension arms, and a modified LCD viewfinder that can comfortably support a stand-mounted loupe.

Each kit can be powered by BPU or V-Lok batteries as standard, making it comfortable to run on the shoulder all day, or quickly stripped back for gimbal work when needed. These setups are not optional extras, they’re how our kits go out as standard.

Whether it’s a single camera or a full multi-camera setup, we work closely with production managers to make sure every kit is practical, scalable and ready to go.
