I have a few opportunities coming up over the next few weeks please take a look and see if you can help.

PROJECT 1-

I’m looking for a 4-5 year old to join me for a well known childrens brand shoot next week

A few details:

-Date: Ideally asap -Monday 14th, Tuesday 15th or Wednesday 16th September
-Time: Between 10am-2pm
- Location: My studio- Southampton
-Session will be around 1.5 hours-
-Images will be provided to the family, and the brand will compensate with products
-Must be happy and sign consent for images to be used online by the brand
-Child must be somewhat confident and able to follow instructions

Please get this to me ASAP as I need to confirm by this weekend. I’ll be in touch as soon as possible to let you know if you’ve been successful.

Project 2
I’m also looking for a few flexible families to join me for creative shoots, mentoring and workshops in the evenings in September or October, around Hampshire and Dorset (exact dates still to be confirmed, so you’ll need a bit of flexibility).

I’d love to hear from families who:

-Are comfortable in front of the camera
-Don’t mind a bit of styling direction from me, but have great style already
-Have children who are happy meeting new people and love being outside
-Are happy for the photos and video from the session to be shared online, both on social media and the website etc.
-All ages, mixtures, genders ect welcome but ideally at least one child of school age

•A recent photo of the child/family in question (multiple is fine if you don’t have a whole family photo)
•A little bit about your child/family
• Your location, and whether you can travel if not local
•Your availability/flexibility (any holidays or dates to avoid)

There’s something very special about photographing a family who’ve spent months apart. Watching Becky, George and Sonny on the beach together , you could see their love so clearly . The way they stood close, the little glances, the pure joy at just being together. Also, let not skip over way George looked at Becky **cough cough slide 2🥹**

Time apart does that. It was easy to see just have much the time back together feel different, full of the emotions we photographers love so much.

I’m so grateful they agreed to model for my 1:1 mentoring session with Zoe Nicholls. They were up for all of my ideas, and even the repetition which is undoubtedly the hardest thing about modelling for a mentoring session.

This whole session was a good reminder that while family photos matter, so does the time itself. Sitting together, talking, just being in each other’s company without a screen or a job pulling you away. This session gave them it all, an evening spent together, and a collection of images that show exactly how it felt to be in that moment together.

I’m looking for one family to join me for a model call this July.

DATE - MONDAY 13TH JULY
TIME- APPOX 6:30-9:00PM
LOCATION - HAMPSHIRE EXACT LOCATION TBC (NOT BEACH)

I’m would love to find a family with children between 1 and 10 years old, who:

✔️ Are happy to be photographed by multiple photographers on the day (3 including myself)

✔️Understand the images will be used in my marketing and advertising by all photographers , and are happy to sign a model release

✔️Have children ( and partners 🤪) who are fairly confident around new people and not too nervous in front of the camera

✔️Are open to being styled by me to suit the look we’re going for, which may include buying some suitable outfits

As a thank you for your time, you’ll receive a minimum of 10 gifted images from me.

When everything lines up in the most effortless way. A meadow in all its glory , light that turned everything golden, and styling that was *chefs kiss*.

But the real magic was never going to be the setting or the styling... This family brought it all with them.

M & J were actually in this meadow with me just over a year ago for their maternity session, which made coming back here for a family photoshoot feel like such a full circle moment .

These are the types of sessions I love most, when I get to witness life shift and families grow and then being invited back to document those moments is what it’s all about for me.

As you can see, little Z completely stole the show. His cheeky personality kept us all on our toes, those big bright eyes pulling you in instantly, and his presence bringing such a beautiful, tangible sense of love into the session.

This is honestly what’s stay’s with me from sessions like this. The chance to reconnect, to see families evolve, to watch parents step into new seasons and children grow right in front of the camera.

This session was just about them, together, in their own rhythm, completely present with each other, no agenda.

This is why I always remind people that family sessions aren’t about perfect behaviour or perfect moments. They’re about showing up as you are and letting that be enough.

Yesterday, I reached out to some of my best friends and asked them to write something about me. Not necessarily about Carley the family photographer, but Carley , the one who lives behind the lens.

I specifically asked them not to carefully curated answers, or tell me what they thought I wanted to hear, just whatever came to mind.

Although, one friend’s immediate response was, ‘Why does this feel like I’m writing your eulogy?’ which, in hindsight, is exactly the sort of response I should have expected from my friends 🙈

For transparencies sake It may appear that I have a large friendship circle.But in reality, one contribution came from my daughter and several friends submitted multiple answers. I am many things in life, but the owner of seven close, active-in-my-life friends is probably not one of them. ( I’m a hard person to love 🤣)

Some of the responses made me laugh, some cry,but a lot made me question how many times they’ve seen me eating sugary snacks 😭

I think everyone should do this , go and ask your favourite people to tell you what they think of you. Not necessarily for a post like this ( although why not I got the idea from someone else’s post), but just because it’s nice to hear 🤎

Fair warning though... they may also expose your questionable sugar intake and other bad habits and the odd character flaw.

After photographing families for almost a decade, these are the things I know to be true.

- Children don’t need to be perfectly behaved.

- Photoshoots shouldn’t feel stressful.

I know the lead up to a family session can sometimes feel overwhelming. Choosing outfits, coordinating diaries, wondering whether the kids will cooperate, worrying if your partner is going to moan about it the whole way there...But that’s exactly what I’m here for.

I’ll help with the outfits, guide you through the planning and take as much of the pressure off your shoulders as I can.

Because the photoshoot itself shouldn’t be about your family performing for the camera. It should be about spending time together, going on an adventure and making memories with the people you love most.

Remember, Perfect smiles aren’t the goal. Some of the most beautiful photographs I have ever taken have happen in the moments nobody planned, in the chaos , in they lie in the in-between.

These photos are feel like childhood. They hold the power to unlock memories, the ones you’ll cherish forever

So if you’ve ever worried that your children are “too much”, “won’t sit still” and you’re putting off family photos because you’re waiting for the perfect moment. THIS IS FOR YOU!

Because no child has ever ruined a photoshoot by acting like a child and the best photoshoots are the one that everyone is having the time of their lives, together, away from screens, picking flowers, dipping their toes into the sea or watching the new forest ponies graze next to you.

So, if you’re putting off family photos because you’re waiting for the perfect moment… I’m here to tell you that doesn’t exist.

This recent session was such an intimate maternity session . I travelled to their home in the north of Hampshire , surrounded fields this quintessential English garden was such a perfect accompaniment to their home session.. Together with their fur and feathered pets we documented this shift in their lives
It was so calm but the energy was unmatched , you could almost feel the excitement of welcoming a first baby into the home. So many quiet moments ,from playful moments their dog , to relaxed maternity portraits in their beautiful bedroom, this session felt so personal and full of love.

I definitely struggled to pick just a few moments.
