Looking for new reading material? Just released: ‘D-Day Stories from the Walls: American Troops in WWII Southampton’. Free to download, this 48-page illustrated booklet explores the stories of some of the American soldiers that passed through Southampton during the Second World War and the city’s crucial role in the war. Though their passage was comparatively fleeting, the legacy of these soldiers remains in the form of graffiti etched into walls near the docks.
This booklet was made possible through support from money raised by National Lottery Players. The project has also created a interactive viewer where the wall can be ‘visited’ in 3D and details of the inscriptions and soldiers can be accessed.

To read the booklet, visit the project webpage and click on ‘Booklet’: https://www.maritimearchaeologytrust.org/ddaywalls
We hope you enjoy the booklet. Please message/ comment to let us know what you think of it.
