Morning Light

Shoebury Common, Essex, UK - Weds 2nd December 2020

The sunrise wasn't looking very promising with a thick bank of cloud sat across the horizon but then the leading edge of the cloud drifting overhead from behind me caught the light and made it all worth it.

This is two long exposure shots, merged as a vertical panorama. Both shots: ISO 200, f11, 90 secs ND10 filter

Shoeburyness Boom.

At the end of East Beach, Shoeburyness in Essex stands the anti-submarine boom that was built in the early 1950's to help protect shipping in the Thames Estuary from potential attack.

This was captured after the sun had set behind me as the tide rose, using a long exposure to blur the water and sky.

I've not been posting so much as I've spent some time learning about Photoshop. This is the first result.

This two images blended together. The foreground captured the Liberty Belle with a long exposure to gain the brightness and clarity but this creates star trails. So a second, short exposure of just 8 seconds at a high ISO was used to capture the same scene and the stars.

The camera and lens I currently have are not ideal for this type of photography but it's all about learning when the chances are there. Clear skies, no moon, low tide, boats laying in a good position.

Slowing Down Sunrise

Sometimes, it's hard to believe the colours that mother nature throws at us. This long exposure captured the colours of a recent morning at the beach.

Sunrise Over The Belle

Some days it can be challenging to find the right shot, a real winner, a keeper. This morning though, tide, wind & time all came together with the light and clouds so incredibly well.

Today, I got lucky. Mother nature put on a stunning show to start the day.

The Mud Shark

Beautiful light as the sun set at Thorpe Bay back in mid September. I'm glad I've been able to get back out on the mud. It's calming to wander among the boats as the light changes.

Thorpe Bay at sunset in mid September.

It's been too long. Thorpe Bay was the last place I went to before Lockdown so it was good to head back and pick up where I left off.

I love a long exposure and despite being a little rusty was satisfied with these.

I'll be posting more frequently again so let's hope for some good sunsets!

Not being able to get out for landscapes so easily now, looking for other things to shoot.

I've finally started to play with a small light box I've got and some extension tubes and having a crack at macro photography.

The final image is comprised of 6 separate pictures focus stacked to increase depth of field.

Last Saturday. Last time out for a while.

Beautiful light and a low tide. As spring arrives, so the boats begin to arrive back on their moorings. The Liberty Belle is probablyl my favourite boat off Thorpe Bay. There is just something special and different about it.
