More of Nature's Fireworks. A "STEVE" or Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement is a ribbon of light that sometimes accompanies the aurora but can often be seen further away from the poles. This one appeared directly overhead while I was watching the main aurora display away to the north.

It's been a long time (too long!) since I posted any images on this page. 2022 proved a difficult year photographically for me, and I didn't get out with the camera anywhere near as often as I should! I'm hoping 2023 will be a more productive year, and to start it off, here's an image taken yesterday on Bamburgh beach, looking north towards Lindisfarne. The couple walking their dog were dressed in the ideal colours to contrast with the cool blues of the winter sky and sea.

The Commando Memorial, near Spean Bridge, Lochaber, Scotland, with the slopes of Ben Nevis in the background. Although the Commandos were formed during World War II, today seemed like an appropriate time to share a view of this memorial and its stunning location.
