incredibly sad to see this - what an incredibly wasteful thing to do with such valuable resources - working or not - nobody is making spares for the film cameras that exist. The idea of melting down and re-casting magnesium alloy bodies is highly toxic and ill informed. To perceive such an act as somehow creative and to celebrate such wasteful destruction is sickening.

i replied to them on instagram suggesting the could use the cameras to build camera banks and engage young people in traditional photography - that would be much more rewarding.

Aside from the waste of parts the embodied carbon in an slr is not insignificant. the mining and processing of steel, brass, zinc, aluminium, glass, stainless steel and other hi carbon input materials is not insignificant. Using a mechanical pre existing camera is much more sustainable….

Please tell them on social media how crazy this is - they can ship them here and we can do something useful with them 😞😞😞

Analogue Photography was started to stop photography equipment going to landfill and to get cameras into the hands of a new generation. Not everything can be fixed but certain models are a source of valuable spare parts for me or others…

Delighted to share details of an exhibition by Tom Astbury opening this weekend at Callendar House Gallery, Falkirk.

“Iron and Clay” is an important and touching document of the industries that once thrived in the area, and the people who toiled there. Tom was photographing theses industries in the early 1980’s when they were in their decline.

Opening 1st May and running until 16th August, 2026. Details of the opening event in this link

today is world pinhole day so met up with some folks from at the kelpies to celebrate one of the simplest and pure forms of photography. This is a wooden pinhole which takes 4x5 film - quick snap of the negative drying on washing line….

Its that time again ! We will be leading an Analogue Photography walk in Stirling on the 27th of June. Something very cool will also be happening with Stirling Photography Festival on the same day 😁.

The walk is organised across the UK by the lovely folks at Analogue Wonderland from whom more information can be had and tickets booked.
