Today's post is a little different from the usual food content...But I came across this fact today and found it fascinating. 2nd June marks 80 years since Italian women cast their vote for the very first time. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น
And it feels personal - this is Angela, my grandmother, my namesake. She was just 16 when she left Italy for Manchester, which means she would have had the vote here in the UK years before her sisters back home. When I think about that - and what it meant to those women to hold that ballot paper for the first time - it really makes you reflect.
To vote was not just a right. It was a declaration: I exist, I matter, I am Italy.
Happy June 2nd to every Italian woman - yesterday, today and always. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿคโค๏ธ

Amongst all the beautiful BBQ meat for National BBQ Week, I wanted to sneak in something a little greener... ๐ŸŒฟ
Asparagus is in season right now, and it's absolutely incredible grilled on the BBQ - that chargrilled flavour is something else. Toss it with leafy greens or watercress, soft-boiled eggs & new potatoes, and finish with a mustardy or lemony dressing. Add bacon or chorizo if you fancy it, but honestly, it doesn't need it.

Moving on from last week's sandwiches (or not?) - this week is BBQ week (phew - it's hard to keep up...!). And making its way up the grid from the archives are these delicious Honey, Lime and Tabasco chicken thighs!

I've popped the recipe on the carousel in case you get your BBQ primed any time soon. Excuse the old ATK branding - as I say, it's one from the archive - a shoot a couple of years ago! And as it's the 30th year of encouraging people to dust off the grill (30th National BBQ Week ), I challenge you to invite 30 people over and make 30 of everything!

OK, so I'm really pushing the boundaries of British Sandwich Week now... today I'm posting a falafel wrap!

Again, the question: but is a wrap even a sandwich? Again, I consulted AI...

Apparently...
"A wrap has a weaker claim to being a sandwich than a burger does. If a burger is a sandwich that evolved its own identity, a wrap is more like a "cousin of the sandwich - related, but a distinct thing in its own right."

BUT...AI also told me that the British Sandwich & Food to Go Association (yes, that's actually a real thing ๐Ÿ˜‚...here's the IG page to prove it ) officially counts wraps in their remit... so I'm taking that as full permission to post!

See yesterday's burger post for the full sandwich debate? Is a ๐Ÿ”or a ๐ŸŒฏ a ๐Ÿฅช

So I was looking through the archive for photos of sandwiches - as it is British Sandwich Week! Anyway, came across this shot - beautiful - yes, makes you want to lick the screen - maybe, but is a burger a sandwich? Well, I don't know....so as one does now when stuck in a moral dilemma... I consulted AI!

It obviously went into quite in depth detail about the minutiae of the arguments for and against. But I quite liked its conclusion...

"Yes, a burger is technically a sandwich, but it's also its own thing. Think of it like squares and rectangles - a burger is a sandwich, but not all sandwiches are burgers."

So, it seems I can post this for sandwich week, but definitely can't post a sandwich for burger week...if there even is one!

Happy - the perfect excuse to share this delicious Cauliflower, Pea, New Potato and Taleggio Baked Frittata recipe.

It all goes in one roasting tin and baked in the over for the simplest of suppers. Serve at room temperature cut into wedges with a crisp green salad.

Taleggio is a delicious, creamy, flavourful cheese which melts like a dream but if you canโ€™t get hold of Taleggio then Camembert or Brie do the job just as well.
