Bamburgh Castle's history spans over 1,400 years, beginning as a Celtic fort and becoming the royal capital of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria. The Vikings destroyed the original wooden fort in 993 AD, and the Normans later rebuilt it in stone, making it a formidable fortress during the medieval period. After falling into disrepair, it was significantly restored in the Victorian era.
