What a week.. the sunrises have been incredible (& incredibly early). I’ve been travelling across the country capturing a few stunning gardens for clients, as well as just visiting a few too & now I’m back to my chaotic neglected nature patch! After being out in the wider landscape it’s quite comforting to feel tucked away amongst the overgrown mass here.. possibly needs a bit of TLC before sharing. Nature has looking after itself in the wild cool spots which are the result of not being able to cut anything back (due to my lack of time). Anyhow, whilst I spend a bit of time tending it I thought I’d share another shot of the heavenly Moor Wood, such a romantic garden & valley nearby. Off to shoot some wedding flowers today, what a day for it!

My meadow this year is loaded with Meadow Crane’s-Bill, just like the verges all around here. I always find it incredible how plants find their own way. I planted so many wild flowers here but not this one! Im so happy it’s meadow time, I have a couple I will be heading to next week… time to recharge my love of these magical spaces.

I live in a beautiful Cotswold village, it’s close to the Cotswold Edge & a far cry from the immaculate polished version close to Oxfordshire. After 14 years of living here I really have met my tribe. I’ve always been a little bit of a hermit, enjoying studying nature behind my garden door not really engaging with the community (always thought I was on my own loving nature so much!). It’s always erratic in the summer & I go quiet in the winter so my lifestyle doesn’t lend itself to being able to join in that much. Anyhow, a while back now I joined our local Biodiversity Group, a few individuals who care about the declining species in our valley, just like me, more so infact. Their dedication & physical actions are so inspiring, they have been so active in helping & educating others despite a great deal of backlash (which unfortunately there is). I’m truly grateful to have found a place where I can have conversations with folk who’s faces light up when we discuss the swallows who returned or the bats we’ve seen & all the wildflowers that finally people are happy to leave be & not cut too soon. Here are a few photos of a night recently when we met to see what moths we could find in the churchyard meadow. We did a bat walk too & although there were only a few, they were there & dipping & diving at the mosquitoes we were attracting around us!

Despite neglecting my garden this last month, I am so thrilled with this beautiful rose, William Lobb. I planted him about 10 years ago & each year he’s pretty spiteful when I restrain him however he revelled in my lack of attention & although I can’t really reach him through the daisies I absolutely love him. This is my view every morning when I pop the kettle on. Very grateful for the small stuff! Astra Desmond is next just hope the rain hadn’t ruined him tomorrow when I’ll photograph him.

When judging is over, the incredible spread has been consumed & after we have dashed to see who won prizes, the day begins to draw to an end, not forgetting the trophy giving! After all the above, the whistle goes (not literally, but actually a good idea), we are given the green light for a tulip trolley dash. Such a great day at the Wakefield and North of England Tulip Show. After the stressful arrival with tulips that decide to expire moments before, filling out the exhibitors entry forms & muddling up categories etc etc, it then starts to become a joyful event. Meeting of similar minds, time to catch up with old friends & a day to make new friends, all in all we all came home smiling & happy. A few certificates & trophies handed out & now charged with inspiration & enthusiasm for next year. Thrilled to come home with a Third prize certificate!

The camassias have never been as good as this before, it’s just a moment in time in my middle of a garden. I’m glad to see it this year as so many times I miss the moment of each plant that I treasure. As each one dies down another takes its place and soon the irises will be taking the baton.
