A uniquely Welsh view

a train station halfway up a mountain backdropped by a centuries old slate quarry that has an entire power station inside it, oh and there's a few sheep dotted about too 🐑

I recently decided to dedicate a week to birdspotting to give it a go And this meant slowing down and taking a new approach to photography. Instead of chasing a shot of light fleeting across hilltops, I had to let the shot come to me—sometikes this meant waiting and watching the same patch of wetland for 4 hours straight.

Surprisingly though, I was never bored. I hardly touched my phone and just felt at peace in the moment. After all this waiting and a very successful week of grebes and kites, I ended up with a bird that I have been wanting to see and photograph every since I picked up a camera.

It was a fleeting moment and a complete rush that only lasted a few seconds but it was all I needed. Super proud of this one

A little place by the sea

Sometimes, you've just gotta snap a shot of those places that have been done to death. It's kind of special in its own way seeing how different photographers from all over the world come together in one spot and all come away with a slightly different image.

To me it shows that photography couldn't be less about the camera but the process that each photographer employs when shooting a scene. I won't talk it up like I spent ages on this however this still remains as one of my favourite photos :)

Well I went out with the intention of finding the mysterious northern bird hide looking out onto kenfig pool after exploring what the south hide had to offer.

What I didn't expect was for it to be completely overgrown and inaccessible. The only proof of it's existence is found of the visitor map, no trace of it exists online and it's a shame that it remains so illusive.

However, pushing through the overgrown, boggy paths kicked up dozens of dragonflies and my mission soon changed from finding the hide to some arthropod photography

Today in the garden

Normally I've assumed that seeing red kites meant getting kitted up, hopping in the car and heading for the open fields of Bannau Brycheiniog.

This past month however, a pair of kites have flown over the skies of neath and I've felt incredibly fortunate to simply step outside and watch them. Normally I spot them when I'm without my camera however today, while working on the garden they flew right overhead.

This sparked a very nice 30 minutes of sitting in my garden with my camera so ofxourse I had to photograph the houseparrows nesting in the bush too
