Yesterday's 8 miles around Milford Common and Shugborough Estate + a bonus 5.3 back round the canal. Only to get back to the car to find it won't start (!) New battery provided courtesy of (£279 later!!) by RAC. Unfortunately this resulted in a missed opportunity to bump into Oldham Groundhopper at Penkridge on his Land's End to John O' Groats walk. Anyways, hot and bothered, lighter wallet and now suffering with heat rash on my lower legs. Had long trousers on so not sun burn. Stay hydrated out there folks.

Walking around Milford and Shugborough today, will post the route and more photos later

"A new improved final section of the West Highland Way" - walked it 4 years ago and the last couple of miles were pavement, this should be a much better way to finish

A new improved final section of the West Highland Way into Fort William has been waymarked as the 'high route'. The route heads around the flanks of Cow Hill - passing this superb viewpoint - before descending into the town, avoiding a long stretch of the original on tarmac. Great work from The Highland Council's outdoor access team.

We've updated the West Highland Way guide on Walkhighlands to use the new route:
