LNER Class A4 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley taking charge of the English Rivera Express with 47593 on the rear captured at Torquay Station working the 1Z08 1635 Kingswear (For Dartmouth) to Northampton on the Saturday 9th May 2026.

Also captured was 158950 and 150266 with a couple of local GWR services.

Good evening everyone,

What I love about photography is the freedom to express a thought, a feeling, a mood through what you capture with the camera. Sometimes you can capture exactly what you want from a scene at the time and sometimes the image comes to life during post processing, and this is what I have done with this particular image.

I took this wide angled image of a devon bluebell wood recently looking directly at the light souce to capture the lines of the shadows cast by the trees at the edge of the wood. Then during the edit I wanted to create a more ethereal, dreamy look to turn what was originally a very contrasty capture into something different. Yes granted some might say it's not true photography by relying on post processing to create the final image but in reality I post process all of my images to some degree. I use tools like Lightroom and Photoshop to tweak and enhance what I have captured in the field and sometimes I will take an image and try and create something different from my imagination.

I find these creative ways interesting and fun so here you are, an image I have titled 'Towards The Light'.

On Sarturday 2nd May 2026 the first of the English Riviera railtours of the season arrived in South Devon and was worked by LNER B1 4-6-0 No.61306 'MAYFLOWER' and supported by 47593 'Galloway Princess'. Here she is climbing Goodrington Bank with Saphos Trains 1Z61 0610 Crewe to Kingswear (For Dartmouth). I also captured the regular service worked by 7827 'Lydham Manor'.
