The Gift II - sunrise Shaldon Beach to Back Beach, Teignmouth, South Devon taken on Tuesday 10th March 2026.

This picture was taken towards the end of that very wet, windy and stormy winter. The combination of no rain, very calm conditions and a glorious colourful sky felt like such a gift after the grey that had proceeded it.

The only tricky part of this picture was the incoming tide which was moving the boats and bouys around. I quick shutter speed and some patience resolved that issue.

The warm glow behind the houses contrasted nicely with the cool purples. What a beautiful morning.

Missing - Early morning light Queen's Grove, Haldon Forest, Devon taken on Saturday 16th May 2026.

It's been a while since I captured or posted any pictures. Sometimes life reminds you of what is really important and what isn't. It can also be brutally difficult.

I didn't really want to take pictures on this morning, I needed some "nature" therapy amongst the trees. However, once there, the lure of fleeting mist and beautiful dawn conditions had me reaching for the camera.

I spent nearly three hours in almost the same spot, taking in the beauty and lost in my thoughts. This picture sumed up that morning and now I feel the urge to share it.

I miss you Dad, goodbye, love you x

Glow - sunrise Shaldon Beach to Back Beach, Teignmouth, South Devon taken on Tuesday 10th March 2026.

After twenty two years of doing this you know when the conditions are amazing.

I undertook a strange looking walk over the rocky Shaldon Beach. I tried to make it to the water as quickly as I could, without turning and ankle. I was aware of how quickly the colours can fade.

I should have mentioned by now...this picture was taken an hour before sunrise. I had to focus the camera on one of the streetlights due to the darkness. However, the colours in the sky were glowing.

It's mornings like these that keep me coming back for more and setting the alarm at crazy times.

The Gift - sunrise Shaldon Beach to Back Beach, Teignmouth, South Devon taken on Tuesday 10th March 2026.

The plan was to photograph Teignmouth from The Ness Pub very early in the morning, when the streetlights were still on. The forecast was grey, cloudy and calm, which seemed ideal. I wanted the town glowing in the gloom.

As I made my way along the coast road I could see glimpses of clear sky. I parked at the Ness car park and walked onto a now very rocky Shaldon Beach.

The sky was lighting up and I turned to a boat I had photographed before, sat in a perfect position on the clean sand. This was much better than grey and cloudy!

I watched the colours change in the sky as the cormorants fished for breakfast. Beautiful.

Relief II - sunrise Shaldon, South Devon taken on Friday 13th February 2026.

It was one of those mornings when I spend time wondering from one location to another looking for something that works.

Despite my best efforts I was on the verge of calling it a day. Then I remembered a boat that I regularly see, but had never taken a picture of.

It is moored with some neighbouring boats and on previous occasions I was unable to isolate the boat. However, this time on a low tide the boat was in a perfect position.

The sun had risen and was lighting Teignmouth in the background. Perfect.

Sorry no picture posted at the weekend. I was busy repotting, wiring and pruning my bonsai ahead of the Spring push.

Two maples have already started pushing leaves due to the recent rise in the temperature 🌿🌴🪾🪹

Relief - sunrise Shaldon, South Devon taken on Friday 13th February 2026.

I'll be honest, over the last couple of months it's been difficult to make pictures I am happy with. This is not down to a lack of effort, but down to the wet and windy weather.

So on Friday 13th I headed out based on a promising forecast. After exploring the shoreline at Shaldon I came across a nice boat with views back to Teignmouth.

All I needed now was some sunlight, which has been such a rare commodity. After a while the sun rose over a cloud bank on the horizon and all seemed good in the world.

As we slowly move out of Winter and into Spring, let's hope the worst is behind us🤞

Rain - early morning light Teignmouth Sands to The Ness, Shaldon taken on Friday 2nd January 2026 (BI - Before Ingrid).

The rain was now falling steadily and passing in sheets over The Ness. As I tried to keep the camera lens dry, the high clouds were catching the first of the sunrise colours.

It was calm and small waves washed upon the shore and round the feet of the groynes. The light began to catch the face of The Ness as the rain intensified.

It has been raining for so long now that I cannot remember when this bad spell of weather started. With no end in sight and with the recent storms, it has been a difficult Winter.

I spotted my first daffodils this week. A sign of better things around the corner. 🤞

Our Pier - sunrise Teignmouth, South Devon taken on Wednesday 28th January 2026.

Since the events of last Sunday I have wanted to come and photograph the Pier. There have been lots of pictures and videos of the damage, but I wanted to try and capture something different.

As I walked down onto the beach I was shocked at the differences in the levels of sand. The Shaldon side was down to rocks and the sand was mounded up on the Holcombe side of the Pier.

I found a tied up bouy by one of the groynes and set about trying to compose a picture that would capture the beauty of Teignmouth.

As forecast, high clouds began pushing in around sunrise and everything just fell into place. Shortly after this picture the owners of the bouy collected it. That was my cue to pack up and head home.

The Pier may not be as complete as it was, but it is ours and it is beautiful.
