A bold, characterful shot where each part of the image work together to tell a story. The tones are spot‑on, giving the scene depth without losing the simplicity of the moment. A great example of how strong composition elevates everyday work.

Working the Land by Della C - another 12 points for Della! Well done.

Big Sky over Lake Te Anau. This wonderful image by Andrew L scored a 12 points in our last landscape competition.

A wonderfully calm composition with that anchored boat sitting perfectly in the still water; it's letting the reflections do half the storytelling. The sweeping cloud patterns stretch across the frame and pull your eye outward, giving the image that huge sense of space the title promises. The monochrome tones really tighten the contrast too, making the textures in the sky and water stand out without disturbing the peaceful mood. Fantastic image, well done Andrew.

Marlborough Downs.

A beautifully calm rural scene where the sweeping lines of the harvested field guide your eye straight through the landscape.

The contrast between the wind‑swept grasses in the foreground and the dramatic sky above gives the image real movement, even in monochrome. The tones are handled cleanly too, letting the textures in the fields and clouds stand out without losing that gentle, rolling feel the Marlborough Downs are known for. Well done Jane T for scoring 12 points in our landscape competition.

A moody, beautifully balanced shot where the still foreground water leads you straight into the darker, more dramatic hills beyond. Brooding Rannoch by Jeff B scored a wonderful 12 points in our last landscape competition.

The contrast is handled with real control; soft light catching the slopes just enough to shape the landscape without losing that brooding atmosphere. The monochrome edit tightens everything, making the textures in the grasses, rocks, and cloud‑heavy sky stand out in a really clean, deliberate way. Fantastic.

Whatley Quarry by Della C.

There’s something captivating about the contrast here, the sharp geometry of the quarry walls against the heavy, rolling clouds above. The monochrome treatment pulls out every line in the rock, making the landscape feel almost sculpted. It’s the kind of image that makes you stop and take in the sheer force of the place - and we love it!

Whatley Quarry scored Della a fantastic 12 points in our last landscape competition.

We do love an autumn Stourhead picture and this is no different. Aptly named Autumn, this picture by Jane T scored her 13 points in our Landscape competition. Full of warmth and calm, with the rich autumn colours wrapping around the water like a soft blanket.

The reflection doubles the beauty, turning the lake into a perfect mirror that pulls you deeper into the moment. The classical structure adds a touch of elegance, almost like a quiet guardian watching over the season’s change. It’s the kind of image that makes you slow down and take in every shade of gold and amber.

Sunrise under the Pont de Kerisper, by Richard B. This lovely image scored Richard a fantastic 13 points in our last landscape competition. We're mesmerised by this shot, the colours feel almost unreal; that soft orange cutting through the cool morning blues, everything perfectly still except the light itself. It’s the kind of sunrise that makes you stop and breathe.

Well done Richard!

It’s a knockout DPI competition

We held an "It's a knockout" DPI competition last Thursday where members could enter up to 4 digital images. We started with 60 images and randomly pitted 2 images against each other. The members in attendance then voted for the best image, the other being ‘knocked out’. This was repeated over several rounds until there were only 2 left.

The images featured here made it into the last 4. The overall winner was the Highland cow by Della Cook, with Jeff Barber's orange rendered building a close second.

Another stunning shot from Andrew in our last Landscape competition. Titled Town of Towers - San Gimigagno, this picture is a panoramic love letter to medieval Italy. Towers puncture the skyline, vineyards and olive groves roll away beneath a dramatic sky, and the whole scene feels both grand and intimate.

This image invites you to wander the lanes and linger on the view; it’s the kind of picture that makes you want to plan a trip or simply lose yourself for a moment - well deserving of 13 points.

Continuing our Landscape competition winners, we have this wonderful picture.

Scoring 13 points from our judge, is Heavens Gate by Jane W. This one isn’t just a scene - it’s a moment. Warm light, the mesmerising Heavens Gate, and two small silhouettes create a quiet, almost private moment that asks you to slow down.

It feels like the end of a long day, a shared secret, a place to sit and breathe and it's well deserving of the high score.
