I’ve spent months and months seeing the same arguments in WhatsApp groups, Facebook comments, and on TikTok reels.
That we’re just people with phones.
That we’re devaluing the industry.
That couples don’t understand the difference between us and a videographer.
This is my take on it ..
The couples booking me aren’t confused.
They’re not making a mistake.
They’re not settling.
They’re booking me because they want the real, unfiltered, documentary version of their wedding back in their hands before the weekend is over, edited properly, with sound, with story, with heart.
That’s a different job to a photographer.
It’s a different job to a videographer.
It’s not a lesser one.
The frustration in the industry in my opinion, isn’t really about content creators.
It’s about the race to the bottom, people charging £200 to hand over a Google Drive of unedited phone clips.
That IS a real concern.
But dismissing the whole role isn’t the answer, raising the standard of it is!
The photographers and videographers I respect most aren’t threatened by me. I’ve been SO lucky to work alongside lots of incredible ones who’ve been nothing but amazing with me and their couples.
They understand that a couple who books both is a couple who values proper documentation of their day, and they refer me to their couples.
The market is telling us something…. Just not everyone is listening 🤣
