Commonwealth Farm (translated from the original Icelandic name). An authentic viking hut situated just east of Reykjavik. Game of Thrones featured a wildling scene here where the villagers met an unhappy end at the hands of Tormund and Ygritte.

Skogafoss, South Iceland. The waterfall North of the Wall.
This is one of the most powerful waterfalls in Iceland and one of the largest (due to it's width). The location of this waterfall marks where the coast of Iceland used to be before the lowlands appeared out of the sea adding about 6km from here to the current coast.
Legend has it that the first viking settler hid treasure in an opening behind the waterfall. It was discovered where only the handle could be grasped before the treasure disappeared out of view. The handle is on display in a church/museum nearby, the treasure hasn't been recovered or seen since.

Gardur Lighthouse given a bit of the iPhone treatment.
I love a good lighthouse, and this one is one of the best places to see the Northern Lights in the south of Iceland, unfortunately we were a little too late to catch them this time so I thought I'd do this instead.

Kirkjufell - The most iconic mountain in Iceland thanks to its popularity with landscape photographers worldwide and its many appearances on Game of Thrones.
It's the most photographed mountain in Iceland, the way the waterfalls line up with the mountain to create this shot isn't something you see everyday!

The Douglas DC-3 converted C-117 plane crash at Sólheimasandur, Iceland. It's such a strange sight in what feels like a moonscape. No sounds to be heard except the distant rough sea and wind rushing through the open metal structure of the plane. Well worth the one hour walk through thick fog and black sand to see one of the most iconic modern attractions of Iceland.

The plane crash landed in 1973 and stayed in-tact. The farmer who owns the land used this as a shed for drift wood and target practice(following the salvage of valuables by the US Navy). In the 90's a neighbouring resident contacted the farmer and asked if he could remove the tail of the plane. Crashes were so regular in Iceland that the neighbour had half a plane similar to this one (tail missing) on his own property and wanted to convert it to a house. Being the utilitarians that the Icelandic people are, the farmer agreed. The neighbour chopped the tail from this wreckage, welded it to his own and lives in it to this day! This site has only become popular in the past 10 years through widespread details of it's location on social media.

I'm currently sat printing out some recent photographs and again realise how much I really enjoy holding the image in my hands on a textured page and away from a screen. It really is a different feeling to see images printed out. This is one of my favourites from a recent family trip to Wales.
