Super proud to win a Gold award from the British Institute for Professional Photography. I love this photo of Wilf and yes we did manage to get him to stand on my electric skateboard!

Here’s what they had to say:

“A massive congratulations to Ian Boichat for achieving the only Gold Award in January’s Monthly Competition!
His outstanding image in the Pets & Domesticated Animals category truly impressed the judges, standing out as an exceptional piece of work.
Earning Gold is no easy feat, it reflects technical excellence, creativity, and a strong storytelling element. Well done, Ian!”

Makes me 😊😀

It’s always nice and flattering to have clients coming back time and again, lovely to see Reno in the studio again this week. A real character and a joy to photograph.

Whilst lots of my work is at Origin Studios this week I was in London again tasked with taking portraits at an event for the Care Leaders Network at the Institute of Directors. Love how these came out especially given the tricky location and only about 2 mins with each person!

One from the archives that I haven’t shared before. An intimate location portrait of Henry Holland-Hibbert from his time as High Sheriff of Hertfordshire taken a few years ago. I seem to be undertaking as many portrait commissions on location as in the studio these days!

This particular image was quite challenging to capture as the corridor was very dark but too much flash would have killed the mood. I did use an external flash hidden on the right hand side of the photo and then blended multiple exposures together in photoshop to create the finished portrait.

Well it’s been a hectic few months, probably should put a few more updates on here! I love a good headshot, it’s amazing what people will decide about you from a photo alone. So here’s a few characterful ones. What does your profile photo say about you?

So pleased to have won Best Male Portrait and Best Fashion Portrait with the Master Photographers Association, just to prove I do more than just dogs! I also got 2 other finalists and 7 merits but I'll save those for another post!

Some of you will know that I am a dog lover and that I have been known to take the odd dog portrait over the years! Of all the subjects I get to photograph I love working with all animals but dogs in particular so this week I was particularly pleased to win the International Pet Photographer of the Year from the MPA. Still pinching myself.

(To those of you who might have seen this already on my personal page I apologise but I'm a bit excited about this one!)

More of my dog portraits can be seen here:

The dog in the photo that won is called Ziggy - such a cool name!

"Dance like no ones watching". Had the pleasure of photographing the lovely Jess at a workshop I held at the studio this week. She was very patient and I suspect pretty tired by the end but we got some lovely images, this one was my favourite.

I've been waiting a while to show off this photo of Betty the Bassett Hound. I was delighted to win gold with this in the April Master Photographers animal category but I hadn't at that point managed to show it to her owners! This is going to look great on their wall! To see more of my dog portraits check out https://ianboichat.com/dog-portraits/ and if you would like one of your dog please get in touch!
