I’ve just shared a new blog from this beautiful spring maternity shoot in Surrey.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Looking back through these images reminded me how beautiful this stage is to photograph.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That funny little in-between.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Still waiting.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Still carrying them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Still imagining who they might be.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We kept the shoot really connected to the season — using the colours that were already there in the landscape, the greens, the blossom and those soft purples coming through.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And I’ve also written about the bit I care about more and more now — what happens to the images afterwards.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because for me, it’s not just about having a photoshoot.
It’s about choosing the images that matter.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thinking about where they’ll live in your home.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And creating something that becomes part of your family story.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The blog is now live if you’d like to have a read.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Link in bio.

I installed a large family gallery last week and it reminded me why I care so much about what happens after the photoshoot.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because there’s something very different about seeing the images finished, framed and actually living in the home.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It stops being “the shoot” at that point.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It becomes part of the room.
Part of the everyday.
Part of the children’s memory of home.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The photographs are no longer hidden away on a screen or waiting for someone to find them again one day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They’re there in the background of family life.
Passed on the way downstairs.
Seen while everyone is rushing out the door.
Noticed in quiet moments.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And over time, I think they start to hold even more meaning.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That is the bit that really matters to me.

Stan 🤍

It feels impossible to look at him now… and imagine where his story began.

Stan was found in a Serbian pound, in the middle of a pack that had turned on him. He was weak, injured, and simply wasn’t going to survive.

The team at Balkan Underdogs went in to get him out.
But when they arrived… he was gone.

They thought they were too late.
That his story had already ended.

But something told them to go back.

And there he was.

Still holding on.
Still here.

From that moment on, everything changed.

Fast forward to today… and this once-forgotten little soul is living in Surrey, ruling the house in his own wonderfully chaotic way. Equal parts cuddles, snacks, and pure goofiness… and if we’re honest, there isn’t a huge amount going on upstairs. But what he might lack in brains, he more than makes up for in heart.

Because he is, without question, the kindest, sweetest dog we have ever come across.

There’s something very special about a dog who has known the very worst… and still chooses softness. Still chooses love.

We can’t imagine life without you, Stan.

Happy birthday, our beautiful, slightly bonkers boy 🤍

Just a gentle note: the final images show Stan when he was first found in the pound and may feel a little difficult to see. Please only swipe if you feel comfortable.

This is where it begins.

A moment captured…that slowly becomes something more.
Something you walk past every day
Something your children grow up seeing
Something that becomes part of your home

Because the photograph is only ever the start.

It’s what it becomes that matters most.

There’s something really special about capturing children at this stage.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Their confidence
Their personality
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The way they see themselves beginning to take shape
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ll be opening a small number of spaces for young performer portraits over the coming weeks.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Relaxed, natural and age-appropriate — whether for a portfolio or simply to capture them as they are right now.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If this feels like something you’d love, just send me a message and I’ll share the details.

Designing with intent.

Before anything is printed, every piece is carefully considered — the space, the light, the scale and how the images will sit within your home.

This is where your photographs begin to take shape as something more than just images.

It’s not just about what we create — it’s about how it lives with you every day.

Creative Model Call: Maternity

I have a rare creative opening this Sunday and I’m using it to create a more expressive maternity portrait.

I’m looking to photograph a maternity session with a more editorial feel — soft movement, flowing fabrics and beautiful natural light, whilst still capturing connection and emotion.

This is a direction I’m really excited to explore and I’m looking for someone who would love to be part of creating something a little different.

The session will include:
• a fully guided maternity portrait experience
• styling direction (flowing fabrics, movement, soft tones)
• one mounted fine art print
The session will take place in Esher Woods - Surrey.

If this feels like you, please send me a message with a little about you and your pregnancy.

Mother’s Day

Today I thought I might have a little day off from the usual things.
A day off from ironing.
A day off from walking the dogs.
A day off from making breakfast.
A day off from hoovering crumbs.

Well… it hasn’t quite panned out that way.

I did get to the gym this morning, which felt like a treat. But I also ironed clothes for my boys, hoovered up crumbs from a house full of food we’re lucky to have, and cleared up after two young men I am incredibly proud to call my sons.

And the truth is, when I really stop and think about it, these aren’t things I have to do.

They are things I get to do.

I get to look after my family.
I get to care for the people I love most in the world.
I get to be mum to two wonderful boys who make me proud every day.

So today I’m feeling very grateful.

Grateful for the noise.
Grateful for the mess.
Grateful even for the crumbs on the floor and the ironing pile that never quite disappears.

Because all of it is part of a life I feel incredibly lucky to have.

And today I’m also sending love to every woman who carries motherhood in her heart in her own way.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you amazing women, and thank you for everything you do, often quietly and unnoticed.

With love,
Jo x

P.S. I did end the day with a gorgeous dinner out with my babies… who are now rather tall, grown young men. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

When a home has been thoughtfully designed, the artwork should be too.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This family’s sliding doors created a beautifully narrow architectural feature, and we planned their portrait commission around it. Before a single photograph was taken, we measured the space, considered proportions and selected a very narrow moulding so the finished pieces would sit perfectly within the structure of the doors.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Every detail was intentional. The flow of images. The balance of natural, joyful moments and more refined portraits. The way the installation would reveal itself as the doors slide open.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The finished result feels effortless, but it was crafted with care and precision.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is what a bespoke family portrait commission looks like when it is designed for a home, not just captured for an album.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Family artwork, created with joy and installed with intention.

For a long time, family photographs lived in albums and on phones.

More and more, the families I work with are choosing something different — artwork designed intentionally for their home.

When we plan a session, we’re not just thinking about the photographs.

We’re thinking about where they will live.

Because joy deserves more than a screen.

If you’ve recently moved or are redesigning a space, I’d love to create something meaningful for you.
