Panorama Milkyway selfie
Throwback to Tenerife last August with Only just got round to editing. Struggling to even post an image recently. Instagram isn’t the same anymore. Maybe one day I’ll get the spark back. Just trying to enjoy the real world right now..

Can’t be bothered to hashtag, the algorithm no longer cares… 😴

Ironstone Mine Milkyway
This year, I decided to give Flamborough Head a miss and walk for an hour and half rather than drive for that long. It was a long trek around the old ironstone track in the dark to get to this location but worth it when I got there. Talk about working for my photos. This is my attempt at Milkyway Core Season. Even this deep into the moors light pollution on the horizon is still quite harsh. The astronomik clip h-alpha filter helped to filter some of it out, as well as filter in detail of the core and nebulas.
My favourite little cluster of stars to the right - Rho Ophiuchi - very rarely seen this far up north ✨

Sony A7iii (mod):
Samyang f/1.4 24mm - all shot at f/2.2
Sky: 10 X RGB - 90secs - ISO 640
10 X H-alpha - 90secs - ISO 6400 - (astro-twilight)
Foreground: 1 single exp. - 90secs - ISO 640 - (nautical twilight)β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

Winter Milkyway Arch
I wanted to get one last attempt at Orion before it sets for the last time this winter but also wanted to include a Milkyway element. The winter Milkyway arch has been appearing in our evening skies at a more sociable hour unlike the MW core which is now appearing in the very early morning skies. Tuesday night was hands down the most crystal clear night I’ve shot in all winter so took the opportunity to drive down to Skelton Tower after work and smash out some panoramas. I have never been happy with any of my compositions at this location but for once I think it has worked out.
Process: 18 image panorama - 2 rows X 9 frames
Sony A7iii, Samyang 14mm f/2.8 - 30 seconds - f/2.8 - ISO 3200 - Tiffen fog 3 filter for starglow

Hydrogen Alpha entry level passed!
Yeah I know a lot of this can’t be seen with the naked eye but who cares! These red gas clouds in the constellation Orion are very real and with the help of my astro modified Sony A7iii camera and a clip-in ha filter it is possible to image this.
This has been a steep learning curve and I have had to spend some time getting my head around the RGB process. Thank you to all my buddies in the astro community for the help and advice as well as all the various tutorials available - you all know who you are :)

RGB Process:
Sony A7iii, Samyang f/2.8 14mm - f/4 - ISO640
Foreground: 1 X 5 mins
Sky: 1 X 4mins
Astronomik ha filter: 9 X 4mins

A throwback to Tenerife in August last year. Can't believe I forgot about this abandoned project. Looking forward to springtime Milkyway season again. See if you can spot James Kennedy camping next to his tripod in the distant foreground.

Venus and the Zodiacal Light are glowing nicely in the evening skies looking west recently.
On Saturday I took a photography student around the old ironstone kiln track on a small workshop.
9 years ago when I took up night photography never did I imaging I would be tutoring it. It was rewarding passing on my knowledge and experience.
We stumbled across this composition unplanned. It’s amazing how the simple shots can be some of the best ones without overthinking or planning.
14mm - f/2.8 - 30 seconds
