My first photos as a dog photographer.
This series of photos of our boy Jet. Were from one of the first practice sessions I ever did.
The camera I had was a battered Canon 20D I had bought cheap off eBay with a standard kit lens. I literally wore that camera out. I pushed it to the absolute limit of what it could do. And one of the images from that set up won me a major prize in the Kennel Clubs Dog Photographer of the year. That winning moment was the catalyst to push me on and on and on.
Over the next 18 years I have been lucky enough to have some amazing camera, lenses and equipment that have helped shape my photography.
That old Canon 20D is the one camera I regret selling. At the time I had choice. Upgrading meant I had to sell what I had. There was no spare cash. I invested everything into my dream of beating a dog photographer. Both financially and spiritually. It means as it does now the World.
That camera taught me everything. And in today’s standards your phone camera is probably better. But photography is not how good the camera is. How much it costs. What lenses you have. The camera in your hand is the one that matters and a belief and vision of the art you want to create. Far more important.
