A day with team in their Morpeth studio.

I love photographing teams like these, every individual is different and not everyone feels comfortable in front of the camera. At this session I helped quite a number of the team understand how to pose properly and made them feel as relaxed as they possibly could. Everyone has their own beauty 🤩📸 we are all special!

Headshots - relaxed, enjoyable and breaking down those camera fears. We all have them - me included - but with a few tweaks and slight changes to posing and how you hold your body in front of the camera makes an incredible difference. All those things you normally do, it’s often you just need to do the opposite!

Part of the half hour experience for headshots is to bust all those “I hate seeing photos of myself” myth - honestly, everyone has their own energy and style that makes you who you are. Be proud of that and embrace it. All you have to do is be you, let me worry about everything else. And it also helps if you have a gorgeous background and great coffee - which of course you get at The Beach House | Whitley Bay Promenade 📸🤩🫶☕️

Massive thanks to Caren for trusting me and the process. The first images here are the last we took - completely relaxed and actually enjoying it! That’s my goal. Coaching up at the lighthouse with my student Thomas, and these guys walked into frame. Quite liked how they looked so just snapped on iPhone.

We were chatting about composition and framing, leading lines, rules of thirds and foregrounds. And a whole lot more! Always fun learning about camera settings and taking better photographs.

And just for reference, I took about 6 photos but deleted 4 of them! Learning how to choose your favorites is important too - culling photos is one of the hardest jobs before the editing starts!

Get ready for your 1970s fix as “The Jungle” is coming to the next I Love North Shields vintage fair on Sunday 25th October.

The world-renowned pub, The Northumberland Arms, was once known by all the sailors in the world. Possibly for their b**r, but of all the people we have interviewed and chatted to, it isn’t the taste of the b**r that first comes to mind.

From stories about the clientele, the owners, the interiors, the music, the toilets and of course the shenanigans going on behind closed doors, there was something for everyone and every preference!

Follow our journey over the next few weeks as we share our 1970s journey through the North Shields fish quay and down to the Northumberland Arms, more locally known as “The Jungle”!

What does it involve?
Out Immersive experience starts with you choosing a character from the The Jungle. We style you with clothing and the option of simple make-up, then on a uniquely designed 1970s set, we chat to you about your character so that you learn about life that some people of North Shields both enjoyed and endured before your photo is taken and then printed off for you there and then, and presented in an I Love North Shields presentation frame.

Can I book in advance?
Yes, we recommend you book in advance as our slots sold out last time we brought our “Fisherfolk” set to the Vintage Market. Slots are every 20 minutes on the hour so message to book in.

What does it cost?
A 20minute styling and photography session is £25 including your choice of one print in presentation folder. Additional prints or digital images can be ordered.

How many people can be in set?
Due to size of the stage and time limitations, we recommend only 3-4 people as maximum at one time. No restrictions of age, and well behaved dogs welcome! Our set is up a few steps on the stage on the first floor of the Salt Market.

Ok - it’s getting serious - in a world where I’ve been told among other reasons don’t be stupid you can’t run because you’re not a runner, you’ve got asthma, being laughed at because I run like Bambi, and believing all the many more negative comments I’ve had over my lifetime, I can’t thank Helen Arnold if H Social enough for encouraging me to sign up for GNR back at Christmas time. I’ve got one more long run left to do, then chilling before the actual race on 13th Sept. But one thing I haven’t done yet is fundraise!

Today is International Dog Day - and considering dogs really are one’s bestfriend, I was so happy to have Chloe New Girl in Toon and Harley in the studio the other day! The Box Shots of mine are perfect for any occasion including photos with your dog!

COACHING on the beach!

Once a month I lead coaching sessions for students to learn a little bit about photography, and to practise something that possibly pushes them out of their comfort zone. Last month we photographed coldwater swimmers and on Cullercoats Beach. This month it was all about having a different perspective and trying to photograph our models through frames or their reflections through a mirror. We spent two hours on Tynemouth Longsands beach - if anyone was wondering what we were up to, now you know!

Massive thanks to Leigh-Ann and Noah, and to and her family for modelling for us today. By the end of the session it was pretty cold, but it was great fun and everyone went home smiling!
