Have you completed the ultimate UK Woodpecker checklist? 🪵

Most people can easily spot our resident giants, but completing the full lineup takes serious patience, sharp ears, and a bit of luck. Here is the breakdown of the 4 species you need to find:

💥 1. Great Spotted Woodpecker: The drumbeat of the British woodland. Loud, bold, and a frequent garden visitor.

🟢 2. Green Woodpecker: The ground-feeder. Look for them on lawns hunting for ants, and listen out for their distinct "yaffle" laugh.

🔎 3. Lesser Spotted Woodpecker: The rarest resident. Sparrow-sized, elusive, and strictly restricted to the high forest canopy.

🤫 4. The Eurasian Wryneck: The ultimate plot twist. This bizarre, snake-mimicking migrant doesn’t even drum on trees, but it is officially part of the family!

How many of these have you actually ticked off your list?👇 Drop your score in the comments! Are you sitting at 3/4 or have you found the elusive Wryneck?

The pelican from the Pelican Restaurant in Paphos is a famous local celebrity named Kokos (or Koko). For decades, this charismatic bird has served as the unofficial mascot of the Paphos Harbour, greeting tourists and wandering freely along the waterfront.

Kokos is treated as a wild bird and a member of the family. She is not caged or kept on a leash. She splits her time roaming the boardwalk, swimming in the harbour water, photobombing diners, and visiting nearby landmarks.
