🍦 Joel's faves no. 4 – There's a number from this stroll through town with Dan and Rebecca that make me smile, but this one is probably the one that really cracks me out into a grin and has stood the test of time 😁

Dan and Rebecca IMMEDIATELY left their wedding ceremony to go and get ice cream, which is a move I have nothing but respect for. Unfortunately I had a job to do, so had to miss out on the sweet treats. Dan's undignified lick of the ice cream really sells the moment, and the whole scene has such a carefree energy. There's also something to be said for appearing in public places on your wedding day – people LOVE it, and will probably always remember the bride and groom they saw walking through town eating ice cream.

Joel's faves no.3 – Sarah and Riggas (James) did a pretty dramatic first dance full of all sorts of moves. I had to bust a few moves of my own just to keep up 😆

The temptation when great moments occur is to only focus on the centre of the action. I think this photo shows the value of (quite literally) seeing past the action and highlighting how everyone else felt in that moment. James and Sarah nail the perfect dip, and the crowd goes wild!

I'm going to be posting some of my favourite photos from down the years (in no particular order) and describing why I love them.

No. 1 – there might be a few from Ed and Julia's wedding if I'm honest, but this one of Julia snaffling a bit of brekkie before she has to head off to the church is probably tops for me. Julia's expression is anticipatory and a little cheeky – eyes wide, knowing that she's risking spilling cereal on her dress, all for that sweet, sweet cinnamon crunch.

Her bridesmaid in the background smiling at the moment lets you know this is a moment shared - and the family notice board in top right communicates the comfort of her family home.

Joel's faves No.2 — choosing these is hard, and I'm definitely finding it's based on just how I'm feeling at the time!

But I think this one from Emily and Cyril's wedding makes the cut every time. This day was full of quieter, more elegant moments, but the confetti tunnel was a bit of a gear change! I love reflecting the full range of emotion during a wedding, and I think this image just bottles up all the joy of that moment with Emily's face scrunched up in excitement, the limbs of the guests flailing and their various reactions all forming part of the story.

Our hands and feet are one of our most basic ways of connecting with the world – and sometimes they show our emotions more openly than our faces do. Often I manage to control my facial expressions, only to find my hands balled-up in excitement, or twiddling my clothes in anticipation. That's why I always take a moment to see what people's hands and feet are doing, to best tell the story, and add visual depth to a wedding album.
