Trends come and go. Here are the things I feel really matter, and will allow you to get the absolute maximum from your wedding.
My heart sinks when I see a list of the ‘must follow’ trends for weddings, because I know they are just popularised by the latest celeb wedding, or created by influencers looking to sell things or to promote their own preferred style, with little interest in what REALLY matters.
Having shot over 500 weddings, I’ve seen a huge variety in style, taste, the minimal to the maximal, and what really matters above all else is that it is YOUR day, so plan it YOUR way.
These things will stand the test of time, because they are all things that are real, and when you look back on your photos in 20 years, these are the things you will remember.
Authentically you
Choose what matters to you — not what’s expected of a wedding.
Fun
Be spontaneous, playful, silly, complete enjoyment for no specific reason except the fun of it all.
Connection
Everyone dear to you and loved, all in one place, at one time.
All the people you love, together in one place, in one perfect moment.
Love
Let love guide every decision — not the schedule, the styling, or the opinions of others.
Time
Time to talk properly, to hug without rushing, and to step back and take everything in and really appreciate the day you made yours.
People
Appreciate people for being there, both family, friends and all the people who’ve worked hard behind the scenes to make your day what it is.
Simplicity
If traditions aren’t for you, let them go. if you want to go big, and spend lots and embrace everything then go for it.
Imperfection
The dirt the dress acquires through the day, the messy prep room, all these are just layers of your story, as it happens. None of it really matters. Whatever happens on the day, all the things you can’t plan for or control are unique and memorable, and makes your day what it is. Let the day unfold, it is yours.
Feeling
Your wedding is all about how it makes you feel. From the planning, through the day itself, and the memories for years after. Enjoy every second.
