📸 ✨ Looking back at beautiful memories from Portsmouth 🇬🇧

Portsmouth is a historic port city on the southern coast of England, located in the county of Hampshire. It’s unique for being the only island city in the United Kingdom, situated primarily on Portsea Island. It’s known for its maritime heritage and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The dockyard is home to the interactive National Museum of the Royal Navy, the wooden warship HMS Victory, where Nelson died in the Battle of Trafalgar, and HMS Warrior 1860.
History :
⚓️Naval Powerhouse: Portsmouth has been a vital naval port for centuries. It has been home to the Royal Navy since the reign of Henry VII in the late 15th century and remains a major base today.
⚓️Mary Rose: One of the city’s most famous attractions is the Mary Rose, King Henry VIII’s warship, which sank in 1545 and was raised from the seabed in 1982. It’s now preserved in a museum at the Historic Dockyard.
⚓️D-Day Role: During WWII, Portsmouth was a key embarkation point for the D-Day landings. Its role in Operation Overlord is commemorated at the D-Day Story Museum.
⚓️Birthplace of Charles Dickens: The famous Victorian novelist was born here in 1812. His birthplace is preserved as a museum.
