Echoes of permanence.

The repeating arches frame a dialogue between light and shadow, inviting reflection on the spaces that carry collective memory. In these enduring forms, heritage becomes both a physical presence and a lived experience.

what images will make the final cut as I start to assemble my submission for I guess we will find out in July 😉

A few weeks ago I happened upon this little location. Nestled amongst homes, businesses and warehouses are the ruins of Pontefract Castle, one of England’s most historic strongholds.

From ancient stone passageways and weathered towers to panoramic views across Yorkshire, every corner tells a story of centuries past. A fascinating mix of history, architecture, and spring sunshine. 🏰☀️
sometimes i just take pictures for memories and pleasure!

Also Free entry!

Ever wondered how photographers get those dreamy wildlife portraits with razor-sharp eyes and buttery soft backgrounds? 🐭📸
At our harvest mouse workshop, we worked with long lenses, wide apertures and careful lighting to create intimate portraits of these tiny animals while keeping every whisker detail sharp.
Most shots were taken with a shallow depth of field (around f/2.8-f/5.6) to separate the mouse from the background and create that soft creamy bokeh effect.
Because harvest mice move constantly, fast shutter speeds were essential (often around 1/500 to 1/2000 sec) paired with higher ISO settings to keep detail and eye sharpness.
The real challenge wasn’t just camera settings... it was patience, timing, and focusing on the eye every single time. ✨
Tiny subject. Huge photographic challenge. Completely worth it.

Captured at Militracks 2026, Overloon, not because vintage military vehicles are unusual here - they are not, but because seeing a female participant confidently taking the controls in a space shaped by mechanical history and tradition felt quietly significant.

A reminder that preserving history isn’t only about remembering the past; it’s also about who chooses to engage with it today. History in motion, and new generations helping carry it forward.

Currently waiting on MRI results which when it’s birthday sucks and waiting for the results sucks even more!

Anyways that aside I’ve just had the most delightful time at St Hilda’s boutique hotel and retreat and of course had my camera with me so I’m sure there will be images to follow including the most stunning little gem of a beach at Skinningrove 10/10 would recommend ✌️

What a week ✨
Started with my PhD transfer on Monday (that big milestone that lets you keep pushing your research forward), and today I’m speaking at York St John’s , sharing thoughts on postgraduate research and editing.
And to round it all off — ending the week with my annual brain tumour scan.
A mix of progress, perspective, and pausing to take it all in. Grateful for every step 💫
