This abandoned castle hotel somewhere in Japan is one of the most extraordinary examples of abandoned architecture in the country. Built as the centerpiece of a German-themed amusement park, the hotel was a remarkably detailed replica of Bückeburg Palace in Germany, reflecting elements of the original’s historic architecture, lavish interiors, Baroque-inspired décor and impressive grand halls. The castle hotel opened in 1992, offering visitors the surreal experience of staying in a German-inspired palace right in the heart of Japan. Following the collapse of Japan’s economic bubble and a steady decline in visitor numbers, the amusement park temporarily closed in 2002 and never managed to successfully reopen. After years of abandonment, financial struggles and failed attempts to revive the site, the park officially closed for good in 2007.
Today it’s a real hauntingly beautiful decaying lost place with a mystical atmosphere.

Rising mysteriously above the waters of the Danube somewhere in Hungary, this Coal Loading Tower (Esztergomi Szénrakodó) is one of the country’s most fascinating abandoned industrial landmarks. Built in 1927 as part of the transport system of the Dorog coal mines, the 15-meter-high steel structure received coal transported by a nearly six-kilometer cableway and transferred it directly onto barges waiting on the Danube below. After coal transportation ceased and the machinery and cableway were dismantled, the unusual industrial building has stood abandoned since 1970. Today, this haunting relic of Hungarian industrial history is a protected industrial monument and cultural heritage site.
Standing isolated on massive concrete pillars in the river, its decaying steel framework, weathered walls and surreal silhouette create an almost mystical atmosphere - a forgotten piece of abandoned architecture and historic engineering. One of Hungary’s most extraordinary Lost Places.
