The hustle
They say it's a life of struggle
Anyways it's better than smuggle
Brutalizes all aspects of our lives but we survive
Poverty stares in our eyes as if we ordered for her service
Did we fall on the wrong side of nature?
Maybe we can never escape the torture
We run, we sweat, we pant just to cross the finish line
The line that never was, and our reward, hand to mouth.
Maybe our matter did not affect the masses hence we had no space.
Our problems heighten, no matter the length we go nor the breadth we stretch, the volume in our pockets will always be empty.
Is it our fate?
Or it is going to fade
Sometimes thoughts of hopelessness creeps in like smoke seeping through the cracks of doors from a house on fire.
The pressures of life force us into areas of danger.
And our pursuit of wealth and happiness always felt like chasing the wind.
But the day will come when we'll have a piece of mind
The sun will shine on us and we shall break out of this prison of hostilities
We shall escape the prisons of our identities
The hustle will never break us, it will shape us.

Let me take you back to the days of old. The times we were free to go anywhere at anything. Now our lives have been reduced to almost nothing. Our world weeps as people fall like houseflies. This virus has no respect for class, no protocols for the high or middle class. Money and other material things are of less value because the world is on its knees. The only protocols it respects is social distancing and wearing of masks has become the new norm. But to our Muslim ladies, they've always worn the masks. Please let's stay safe and also spread hope. There's always light at the end of the tunnel. This too shall pass

The student's plight.
They say education is the key, what if the key you gave me was for the wrong door?
Just because I could solve lots of calculus doesn't mean I wanted to read engineering or actuarial science. Just because I topped biology and chemistry in school doesn't mean I wanted to go to the medical school. Parents, teachers, friends and the society make us go in for the prestige, not pausing for a second to ask ourselves what we really want.
We end up at the wrong door with the right key.
What if I wanted to enter the door labeled sculptor but the key in my hand is surgical instruments?
What if I wanted to be a fashion designer or a photographer yet I sit in class calculating premiums and pension benefits. We go through such pain that blinds our pasts and conceals our future, cursing the day we made a choice to please parents, teachers, friends or the society. If we ever had the chance to go back in time, we wouldn't do the same mistake twice.

New year new me.
Do we really mean it?
So if I couldn't change from June 30th to July 1st, what's so different from December 31st to January 1st?
Our resolutions outnumber the number of days we'll return to default settings.
We set goals without resetting our attitude. Without a change of heart there's no change of body. We don't get different result from doing the same thing over and over again.
So resolutions maybe met others won't get close, but it's dependent on how true you stay to yourself.
The best resolution I think is staying true to yourself, doing what you love and fulfilling the purpose for your life.
