Telendos Island.
The most famous legend of Telendos is a tragic love story similar to Romeo and Juliet. In the Byzantine years around 1100 to 1200, there was a beautiful princess named Pothea who lived on the island. Across the channel was the kingdom of Castelli, where Prince Andronicus lived. The two ruling families of the channel kingdoms had a long history of hatred, but Pothea and Andronicus fell in love.

The king of Telendos forbade the relationship, so the two lovers devised a plan to be together. They lit a candle and carried it across the channel, hoping that it would burn all the way to Castelli. However, the candle was not meant to last. The flame was extinguished by the slightest breeze, and Pothea was heartbroken. She ran to the sea and drowned herself.

On the other side of the channel, Andronicus saw the candle go out and realized that Pothea was gone. He was so grief-stricken that he threw himself into the sea and drowned as well.

The people of Telendos say that the face of the beautiful princess can still be seen on the left side of the mountain. They believe that her love for Andronicus was so strong that it left a mark on the rock.

Of course, it is also possible that the princess's profile is simply a natural formation. However, the people of Telendos prefer to believe that it is a reminder of the power of love. They believe that a pure heart full of love can leave a lasting impression, even on something as strong and enduring as a mountain.
