Yorgo is a ceramic artist living in the mountain village of Manolates on the island of Samos. In this quiet place where nature and silence intertwine, he has been shaping clay for years.
His mother was born in Istanbul, his father in Kayseri. Both were forced to leave Turkey as children during the 1924 population exchange. They carried with them not just belongings, but also a sense of belonging and traces of the past.
Although Yorgo was born in Greece, he has always felt connected to Anatolia. “My roots are there,” he says. This feeling is reflected not only in his words but also in the ceramics he creates. His works serve as a silent bridge between the two shores of the Aegean. For him, the sense of being in-between — shaped by displacement — is not a loss, but the very source of his art.
